Deep in the heart of Chianti, looking out across the rooftops of the market town of Gaiole, this apartment is the ideal base for exploring Italy’s premier wine country. These compact quarters, a smart choice for a couple travelling with one child or a friend, are spread across the first floor of a villa, flowing out to a large terrace, with a private pool in the garden below offering the welcome chance of a refreshing dip when the sun is high. Inside, Casa Paccheo is deceptively roomy. The tastefully decorated interiors have been thoughtfully designed to maximise every inch of space, with an open-plan arrangement for cooking, dining and relaxing, plus good-sized double and single bedrooms. In the cooler months, there’s a welcome fireplace to snuggle up in front of, while you’re bound to be tempted out to the terrace on warm, starry nights. Our Thoughts This is a great little base for a couple plus one, well designed to make admirable use of limited space, and with the luxury of a private pool. Foodies will love bringing back booty from market to rustle up a local dish or two in the sleek, well-equipped kitchen. But we encourage you also to take full advantage of the close proximity of Gaiole, a short walk away, and put the cooking in the hands of the superb local restaurants. Notes Two bedrooms. One bathroom. The owner lives on the ground floor. Wifi is available in the pool area. There is air-conditioning in the lounge-kitchen-diner and both bedrooms, which is charged if used. There is an internal staircase leading down to the owner's apartment. The door to this staircase is always kept locked.  Parking - 1 place available on site. Fire Place: open Pool The pool is a short distance from the villa, at the end of a gravel path. It is a raised pre-fabricated pool, accessed via a few steps. The water is entered via metal ladder steps. There is a small raised sun deck with three sunloungers to one side, which is shaded for part of the day by trees. On a lower level, there is a table and chairs with parasol and a barbecue. The pool is 6.5x4 metres and 1.1 metres deep. It's open from May to September, weather permitting. It is chlorine cleansed.
