Welcome to my home - north of West Nanjing Road ! My apartment is situated at the intersection of Nan Hui Road and West Beijing Road , in the heart of Jing’an District, Shanghai’s cultural and business center. This elegant pre-war apartment features classic 11ft ceilings and excellent sunlight. Compared to average old lane historical apartment in shanghai, my place is big. It has close to 1100 sq. ft of living space. For added openness, I kept the living room wide open instead of converting it into a 2-bedroom unit. Currently It has one master bedroom w/shower, one large living room with working space and a windowed balcony / kitchen that affords ample counter space for a budding chef. Gorgeous refinished oak wood flooring can be found throughout the apartment. For families that have more than 2 members, sofa bed in the living room can be used as a back up sleeping area. Bunker bed is also available upon request. Location wise my place is close to Nan Jing Road, about 5 mins walk. Nanjing Road Nanjing Road is the earliest and most prosperous shopping street in in Shanghai dating back to the 1840s. Regarded as "the first commercial street in China", Nanjing Road offers all-in-one shopping malls, gorgeous restaurants and spectacular night views. Nanjing Road occupies a surprising length of 5.5 kilometers. It's further divided into two parts, namely Nanjing Rd. (E) and Nanjing Rd. (W), with the Xizang Rd. (M) as the bountry line. Nanjing Road, in the eyes of Shanghai locals, simply refers to the Nanjing Rd. (E). In 1999, the brand new 1,033-meter-long Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street was completed also at the Nanjing Rd. (E) section. Now the pedestrian street has become the most welcomed commercial area around Shanghai and the most famous among thousands of pedestrian streets in China. Nanjing Road Shanghai Nanjing Road Shanghai Bustling Nanjing Road Nanjing Road sculpture Nanjing Road is also of historical significance, playing an important role in the development of the city. After the Opium War (1839-1842), Shanghai became a treaty port. And the Nanjing Road was a main road to reach the Bund, so it was important. The road was first a British Concession, then the International Settlement. Several standout companies established by Chinese businessmen later nestled their stores at the buoyant Nanjing Road, for instance, Wing On Department Store and East Asia Hotel (developed from Sincere Company ). So you can imagine how rich Shanghai entertainment can be. An eclectic, international strain in the nightlife scene makes it very welcoming to outsiders. Bars and clubs seem to be everywhere, and pop up with increased regularity in Xintiandi area and along the Bund, Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road. Besides bars and clubs, Shanghai always has cultural scene on stage, with cinemas showing a myriad of films, and theatres featuring opera, dance, drama, acrobatics and puppets. Just to name some the main sections where the nightlife concentrates. Shanghai Bar Street Xintiandi Xintiandi displays a comparatively traditional Shanghai architecture called Shi Ku Men. But walking into all those newly built-up, you find everything modern, western and trendy. It includes various kinds of small shops and restaurants, bars and so on. Tianzifang Soho Street The top art street in Shanghai. It's lined with hundreds of creative workshops and bars. What's more, you can easily spot a lovely Longtang house at the street. It's somewhat like the 798 Factory Beijing yet it comes with the tone of petty bourgeoisie that prevails around Shanghai. Hengshan Road The first leisure and entertainment street in Shanghai. Hengshan Road was built on the base of Avenue Petain, the famous road in the former French Concession, featuring abundant old-Shanghai villas and lines of plane trees. Shanghai Nightview The Bund The best place to feast the skyline in both the Old Town (Puxi)and the New Town (Pudong). The night look of Shanghai Custom House is especially stunning. Huangpu River Night Cruise The Huangpu River is a tributary of the Yangtze. You'll see the magnificent building skylines on both the historic west side (the Bund), and the modern east side (Pudong) . It is a good way to relax a bit and sight-see at the same time. It is fun for young kids and family friendly. Shanghai Night Show Shanghai Acrobatics Show The acrobatics in Shanghai is always a highlight for visitors. There are two famous Shanghai Acrobatic Theatres. Varieties of exciting programs with countless near-impossible feats of flexibility, strength, endurance, and sheer will-power are performed on stage that will leave you completely astounded. Shanghai Dining, Shanghai Cuisine & Foods Shanghai cuisine, also known as Hu Cai, includes two styles--Benbang cuisine and Haipai cuisine. Benbang cuisine, literally meaning "local cuisine", is the traditional family style cuisine. Haipai cuisine, literally meaning "all-embracing cuisine" is derived from the cosmopolitan culture. Benbang cuisine and Haipai cuisine have many things in common: First, they make great use of fresh meat, chicken, vegetables and especially various marine ingredients such as fish, shrimps and crabs. Secondly, Shanghai cuisine has a great number of signature dishes made from various seasonal ingredients. Thirdly, a wide range of cooking techniques have been adopted and include steaming, braising, stewing, stir-frying, quick-frying, deep-frying, boiling, marinating, smoking and roasting. Fourthly, strongly hot food hardly ever forms part of Shanghai cuisine. Most of the dishes taste fresh, clear, mellow, sweet. In recent years, Shanghai cuisine has been greatly influenced by Cantonese cuisine.
