You can get a boat from Poole to Brown Sea island, a National trust site with an abundance of wildlife including red squirrels. At Tower Park there is Splashdown - a water park, a cinema and a bowling alley, as well as a variety of restaurants. You can get the ferry from Poole to Studland to visit Swanage with its steam train that goes to Corfe Castle. Corfe is a pretty village with the ruins of a thousand year old castle. Bournemouth is nearby where you can visit the Oceanarium, the Bournemouth Eye, beautiful gardens, mini-golf, a theatre and there are a variety of events throughout the year.
