Leisure Lake Escape hosted by St James Vacation Homes How do you define vacation? If you're like us, it goes something like this: a single level home with a wraparound porch offering broad deep-water views; private dock; firepit, located on a quiet cul-de-sac that's minutes away from dining and shopping. If these highlights are part of your checklist for a vacation experience among the 13,500 acres of Lake Sinclair, Georgia, then Leisure Lake Escape will meet and exceed your expectations! Our 3-bedroom, 2-bath home is an unforgettable crowd-pleaser that combines indoor comfort with outdoor spaces that maximize the surrounding natural beauty. Nestled on nearly an acre of waterfront property, Leisure Lake Escape's red tin roof peeks from just behind the tree-lined driveway. Parking is easy, and it's in the driveway that guests discover a rare feature among vacation rentals: a ramp that connects to the wraparound porch! With no steps to climb to the main (and only) level of the home, this property is perfect for those with limited mobility. The white-columned porch showcases Southern charm and leads to the back of the house, where the view opens up to the vast horizon of Lake Sinclair and beckons guests to “sit a spell” under the breeze of the overhead fans. The only steps on the property lead down to the timeless vista of wide-open water, all from the comfort of Adirondack chairs circling the firepit and another set underneath the towering oak. There's a covered boat lift and a private fishing pier for anglers of all skill levels, and boat/ski rentals are around the corner at Sinclair Marina and nearby Twin Lakes Rentals, H2O Adventures, and Jereshai Lakeside. For additional fun under the sun, 2 kayaks and a paddleboard are available, and a cornhole set eagerly waits for a friendly match. The home's spacious and cozy interior welcomes both the weary traveler and the guest who has already spent the day on the water. Natural light streams in from the shoreline-facing windows and doors, and the open floor plan (with wood and tile floors throughout) seamlessly connects the kitchen, dining, and living area for easy traffic flow. The kitchen features granite countertops, wooden cabinetry, and dishwasher, microwave, stovetop oven, and side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. There is seating for 6 at the pine dining table, and room for 2 more at the adjacent countertop. During mild weather, up to 8 guests can enjoy open-air meals on the porch and a BBQ on the propane grill. In the living area, catch up on your favorite show on the wall-mounted flatscreen or kick back in the electric loveseat recliner or sofa for a quick nap between boat rides. There's also a little nook with an armchair designed for our smaller VIPs. Just off the living area is the master bedroom with queen bed, flatscreen TV, storage closet with extra mattress, and ensuite bath featuring an oversized walk-in tiled shower with dual shower heads. Down the hall, a full bath is flanked by two guestrooms, one with a queen bed, flatscreen TV, and storage closet and the other with a king bunk (twin mattress on top), crib, and flatscreen TV. For guests who don't want to travel home with dirty clothes – and for those who need to refresh swimsuits – there is a laundry room with a full-size washer and dryer set. While many guests will prefer to put the “leisure” in Leisure Lake Escape, others may want to explore the surrounding community. For basics and menu planning, Kroger is ten minutes south on Highway 441, and there's a Publix in nearby Greensboro. If vacation means that the family chef is off duty, try Aubri Lane's for contemporary southern cuisine with lakeside views. Georgia Bob's is also a great option for BBQ and some of the best chicken salad around. For true Southern culture, Milledgeville is a trove of history, having served as the state capital of Georgia from 1803-1863 and now as host to Georgia College & State University. Downtown Milledgeville is a 10-block historic district lined with antebellum homes and churches, including the Old Governor's Mansion that was once occupied overnight by General William T. Sherman in his famous March to the Sea during the Civil War. Milledgeville also boasts Andalusia Farm, home of acclaimed late author, Flannery O' Connor, who dryly remarked of her hometown, “When in Rome, do as you done in Milledgeville.” Another historic site worth visiting is the Central State Hospital Campus (formerly known as the Georgia State Lunatic, Idiot, and Epileptic Asylum), founded in 1842. At its height, it was the world's largest mental health facility with 13,000 patients. It is still in operation but has downsized significantly. Visitors can go on a guided trolley tour of the original campus, and the tour guide is a former employee with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Less than 45 minutes away are the towns of Eatonton and Greensboro, home to Sinclair's twin-separated-by-dam, Lake Oconee. Both of these areas have historic downtown districts, a variety of dining and retail options, and seasonal farmers' markets, festivals, and events that highlight the easygoing lifestyle of Lake Country.
