Come experience the Poconos from the unique lodging offered at “Castle Blackberry”, a spacious and relaxing 4-bed 2.5-bath home in a quiet Jim Thorpe neighborhood. Take the canoe and kayaks for a paddle at any of several area options. Ski the slopes at Big Boulder, hike the trails at Lehigh Gorge or Hickory run. In between adventures, relax on the deck, or invite friends to chill by the fire pit and cook on the grill. THE SPACE The "Castle" is a truly unique 2,700 square foot home on 1.1 acres, bounded in back by a Nature Conservancy forest. The first floor has a large open living area, with a living room with wood fireplace and a smart TV, an eight-seat dining table, and a four-stool breakfast counter. This level also includes a luxurious master bedroom with king-size bed, gas fireplace, and private bathroom. Four double doors open to the deck and backyard, with fire pits and grill available. The second floor includes another bathroom and two spacious bedrooms, one with a king size bed which can be separated into two twins. The other bedroom is great for kids, having bunk beds including a third slide-out bed, a pack-n-play stowed in the closet, and a "secret" staircase to a cute little reading nook. The third floor, a.k.a. the "Penthouse," consists of one large, hexagonal bedroom, furnished with a full bed and a sofa bed. This room has a small but spectacular balcony, which overlooks the back yard and the conservancy woods beyond. Your stay at the "Castle" includes guest badges and parking permits for the adjacent Bear Creek Lake community, with access to the private 160-acre lake's beaches and boat launches, as well as its private swimming pool, picnic areas, tennis courts, and basketball courts. The house comes equipped with a canoe and three recreational kayaks (two singles, and an inflatable double kayak). Also includes several inflatable inner tubes, and assorted life vests. A few bicycles are also on hand. (PLEASE wear an appropriate life vest for any lake activities!) NOTE: The Castle welcomes any dog whose human can vouch for good behavior. The backyard is fenced. OTHER NOTES 30-DAY MINIMUM - PLEASE NOTE: We would love host you for a week or a weekend, but local community rules prohibit us rentals under 30 days. Things to do nearby: - Swimming, kayaking/canoeing, tubing at nearby lakes or the Lehigh River. - Drive into downtown Jim Thorpe and walk the historic downtown strip, ride the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, or take in a show in the old Mauch Chunk Opera House. - Explore the trails, rivers and lakes of three nearby state parks (Hickory Run, Lehigh Gorge, Beltzville). - Ski at Big Boulder, Jack Frost, or Blue Mountain. - Enjoy a concert in the mountaintop setting of Penn's Peak. - Go whitewater rafting or tubing on the Lehigh River. - Engage in paintball warfare at Skirmish USA. - Enjoy hunting in nearby state game lands, or fishing in state park lakes and streams. - Hike segments of the world-famous Appalachian Trail, with rocky climbs and stunning cliff views along the way. HOUSE RULES - Renter must be at least 25 years of age. - No smoking is allowed in the house or on the property. - No pets allowed in the house or on the property. - Hunting, fishing and firearms are against the law in this community, subject to prosecution. - Please check with your host before using either fireplace.
