“Hygge” [hue-gah] is the Danish word for the secret to happy living, and at our modern cabin in the heart of Cherokee National Forest, joy is no stranger. It’s hard to fret over frustrations when you’re swinging on the front porch or snuggled up in the reading nook, and easy to enjoy the company of those you love when you’re wandering among waterfalls. At Hygge Hus [hoos], we believe finding happiness should be as easy as adding another log to the fire—and we’ve already chopped the wood for you. We are here for you during your stay, but our level of interaction is up to you. We're only a phone call/message away. You will be able to self check-in upon arrival. We are focused on making sure you have a 5-star experience during your stay. If for any reason this isn't the case, please reach out and let us know. Surround yourself with Appalachia’s wild beauty. Hygge Hus is tucked in the Cherokee National Forest—strap on your boots and walk less than a mile from the front porch to Laurel Fork Trail, where if the season’s right you’ll be able to spot southern wildflowers on a short walk Laurel Fork Falls. Just over two miles away is Dennis Cove, where you can take a short walk to two falls and a pristine swimming hole, or opt for a strenuous hike on the famed Appalachian Trail. Drive 15 minutes to Watauga Lake, where you can cast a line or paddle around calm waters while taking in mountain views. And if you’ve caught wanderlust, there’s plenty of adventures to be had further out among Cherokee’s 650,000 acres. River and Stream Fishing Laurel Fork Creek is stocked with Rainbow Trout below the campground. Above the campground, it is managed as a wild trout stream for three trout species, Brown, Rainbow, and Brook in the tributaries. Laurel Fork Trail (#39) follows the creek upstream for 8.0 miles with twenty-six stream crossings. Hygge Hus is just 23 minutes to Johnson City, where you can catch live music, sip local brews, explore scenic parks, or indulge in some of the south’s best BBQ. You have access to the entire 1,372sq ft Cabin along with 0.63 acre lot. Make yourselves at home. Add the Hygge Hus to your wishlist by clicking the ♥ in upper-right hand corner. Hygge Hus is designed to make your days simpler. To shift your focus to the present moment and all it offers—whether that’s laughter and a warm meal with those you love most, or quiet reflection as you listen to the sounds of the forest. With tall windows, warm wood accents, and an open concept design, the gathering area brings the spirit of the outdoors in. The forest will be your backdrop as you gather for spontaneous smorgasbords in the dining area, whip up hearty breakfasts in a fully equipped kitchen, or plan the day’s adventures in the cozy living space. We invite you to disconnect during your stay. While Hygge Hus does offer WiFi, it’s far from lightning fast—the only kind of “stream” here is the one you can hear flowing from the front porch. Instead of Netflix and Hulu, you’ll find a collection of over 300 top blockbuster movies, music concerts and musicals from the past 50+ years. That, and a selection of best-selling books and board games, plus an old-school Nintendo Wii system with your yesteryear favorites, like Rock Band and Mario Kart. Venture outside and delight in your own private wooded wonderland. Toast marshmallows around the firepit, fire up the grill and share a BBQ meal at the picnic table, or steal away for a stroll just across the street to the Big Branch Stream. When day is done, choose from a King size master bedroom or a sleeping loft with two queen-size beds. Each offers its own full bath—there’s no hurried morning routines here. And before you depart, be sure to leave your mark. Hygge Hus is owned by two globe-trotting travelers who love hosting like-minded souls; leave a pin on the map to celebrate the home you’ll be returning to. Additional features at the Hygge Hus: - Clean and sanitized to CDC and WHO standards - Self check-in - Onsite washer + dryer - Fully stocked kitchen - FirePit - Keurig Coffee pod machine + French Press. - Onsite, Secured parking for 3+ vehicles - Fresh Mountain Air - Two waterfall hikes are nearby, Coon Den Falls and Laurel Falls - 1.7 miles to Dennis Cove Trailhead and the Appalachian Trail - 1.8 miles to Laurel Falls Trailhead - 12 miles to downtown Elizabethton. - 22 miles to downtown Johnson City. - 75 miles to Asheville, NC - Safe community. - Personal Concierge Service
