Upstairs the galleried bedrooms have vaulted ceilings, exposed stone walls and glass balustrades, making this feel like a cosy space to retreat to. It is accessed by paddle stairs and a second spiral staircase, not suitable for less mobile guests. Out and about there are walking and cycle routes from the door. Take a route through 5 acres of woodland and a short 2-mile walk into Heighington village and enjoy the hospitality at the village pub. The cathedral city of Durham, a World Heritage Site, can be reached within a 20-minute drive. Tourist attractions include the Lumiere Festival, jazz festival, book week, arts week, the Gala Theatre, castle and cathedral, as well as many designer boutiques, shops and with an excellent choice of places to eat and drink. Within easy reach are Barnard Castle, the North East coast, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Lake District National Park and the Northumberland Coast. For the outdoor enthusiast, cyclists, ramblers and leisurely walkers will find many walks and cycle paths suitable for all abilities.
