Stunning Riverside Cottage In Totnes, South Devon
Perfectly set beside the River Harbourne, a tributary of the River Dart, this gorgeous South Hams cottage promises captivating views across to Yetson and beyond. Previously a fruit barn, outside this spacious rubble stone property (circa 1825) hosts a pretty south facing riverside garden, as well as approximately 1700 square feet of high quality, self-contained open living space on the inside. So welcoming and mesmerising that you will find it difficult to leave this picturesque dwelling. From the moment you step in, you will find a retreat that has been beautifully restored to seamlessly merge original stonework, old timber joists and beams with contemporary design. The light and airy interiors showcase soft curved walls, stone floors, looped wool carpeting, offset with traditional barn doors, wooden cladding and traditional aged oak A frames. Residing on two levels, the neutral décor soothingly embraces luxurious fixtures, fittings and soft furnishings to create balance, harmony and tranquility, in a truly picturesque natural setting. The cottage is ideally positioned to access all areas of the South Hams. A car is necessary for travelling and exploring the broader area, however there are extensive walking routes from the property to Totnes, Tuckenhay, Cornworthy and Dittisham, as well as the Yetson, Harbourne and Washbourne valleys. We are blessed with having Totnes, a stunning medieval town, full of wonderful eateries, art galleries and boutique shops less than three miles away. Salcombe and Dartmouth, not to be missed locations for sailing enthusiasts and those who love idyllic waterside settings, can be found within a short drive. Similarly, the rugged South Hams coastline offers numerous beaches, National Trust properties and the fabulous South West Coastal Path, all within the rich smuggling heritage. If the coast is not for you, then explore the rugged hills of the Dartmoor National Park, visiting the ponies and cultural moorland villages of Chagford, Widecombe and Ashburton. After a busy day exploring these beautiful areas, why not enjoy delicious food and sip cocktails in one of the local waterside pubs in Bow Creek, just a short stroll from Bow Mill Farm. Alternatively, build up an appetite and enjoy craft ales and fine food in the atmospheric Durant Arms, located in the quintessentially English Ashprington village, less than half a mile away. If guests can tear themselves away, as soon as they leave our gated entrance, they will find ease of access to fantastic trails and paths along picturesque meadows, fields and ridges. Within walking distance, guests can visit the Sharpham Estate which offers tours around their vineyard, wine tasting and a wonderful farm shop. Whilst the cottage is perfect for four, the two chair beds in the Master Bedroom lend themselves to accommodate two additional young children up to 12 years of age.
