Take a break at “The Canal.” Slow down, renew, and relax by connecting to nature in a charming family-owned beachfront home located on Hood Canal at the mouth of the Tahuya River across from Alderbrook Resort. Four generations have enjoyed this home for nearly 30 years, and we are offering it to you. Bring your family or close friends, and spend quality time together, enjoying each other's company, laughing and sharing stories, while relishing and delighting in what nature has to offer. Or if during this time of COVID, you are tired of being at home and need a safe place to work and recharge, spend a week here and as soon as you finish attending that conference call or zoom meeting while sitting on the patio or deck, jump on a paddle board and float on the water or go for a walk with your partner or kids on the beach. The focus of our house, "The Canal Beach House," is bringing people together and enjoying the outdoors, disconnecting from technology and getting back to basics. This is the perfect location for a large family with kids, two smaller families, or a few friends to gather. We offer two bedrooms with queen beds, one open bunk/rec room that sleeps 5 plus a sofa that transforms into a bed, perfect for kids with separate area to hang out and watch movies, and one pull-out sofa in the living room. There is only one bathroom. Please note that this is a small, older home. Accommodations for 9 comfortably. There is also a washer and dryer for your convenience. NOTE: SHELLFISHING IS NOT PERMITTED. GUESTS MAY NOT REMOVE OR DIG FOR OYSTERS OR CLAMS. LIFE AT THE CANAL: • Start your mornings by savoring a cup of coffee sitting on the beach, resting your feet on a log while watching the tide slowly go out as herons stoically fish. • If you practice meditation or yoga, sit on the meditation stool or yoga mat outside on the grass, patio, or deck facing the water. • Walk, jog, or ride along the road, enjoying the view of the water, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the solitude. • Use our high-powered telescope and watch the eagles as they majestically stand on the tideland in all their glory. • Walk out onto the tidelands at low tide, searching for starfish, sand dollars, and other marine creatures. • Or go for a hike at one of the numerous hikes in the area. • Take the whole family to the tiny store at Summertide Resort one mile down the road to get a popsicle or pick out a shell bracelet as a souvenir. • Later in the afternoon, get out on the water with paddle boards, kayak, or canoes. Say “hi” to the curious seals. Paddle up the Tahuya River, leaving the sounds of civilization behind. If you are very lucky, you may even be able to paddle out past Sisters Points and watch orcas swim by! • Or if it is hot or you love swimming, go for a swim! • Later, enjoy a relaxing drink while playing bocce ball on the beach-side grassy lawn. • Or sit on the patio furniture with a glass of wine, chatting and catching up with your good friends. • If it is raining, sit on the comfortable sofa with the fire blazing in the fireplace and watch the water and storm pass by while reading a good book. • Roast marshmallows around the wood or portable gas fire pit and afterwards, play board games with your friends or kids around the dining room table. • Enjoy movies in the living room with the family, eating popcorn. • For Fourth of July weekend, sit outside and enjoy the professional firework show at Alderbrook Resort (every July 3)! • End your evening by sitting under the stars on the patio or deck, wrapped in blankets and gazing at the moon through the telescope. • Or pack your kids in the car and watch a movie at the Belfair Rodeo Drive-In Outdoor Theater about 40 minutes away. NOTES: Please note that this is a small, old house, about 1,300 square feet. The kitchen is small and there is only one bathroom. Upgrades have been made, but it has not been remodeled entirely. PLEASE NOTE THESE RULES: The dock and neighborhood park are off limits to people who are not members of the neighborhood association. NO GUESTS MAY WALK ON THE DOCK OR PARK. SHELLFISHING IS NOT PERMITTED. NO DIGGING FOR OYSTERS OR CLAMS. Guests may walk on the beach to the dock. We ask you to be respectful of our neighbors, whom we have known for years.
