The "Cabbin" of historic Mountain Home is cozy, comfortable space, 120 yards east of the Appalachian Trail, on Route 522 (Remount Road), 3 miles from Front Royal, VA. 6 beds, a bathroom, small kitchen and dining area. Reserve the whole "Cabbin" here. See "Cabbin" bed listings to reserve individual beds. No TV in Cabbin, but you can use Main House game room with viewing station, Internet connection, family friendly DVDs/VHS tapes. Occupancy and meals taxes are included in the listing price. The “Cabbin" is a renovated historic building that was once a cabin, but is now a small brick building (with the logs still inside the walls). In the spirit of Appalachian Trail (AT) hiking, people often rent individual beds for a night or two, but when you rent the whole Cabbin, no other guests will be staying there. You'll still find hiker-friendly details like boot dryers, a shaver, Q-tips, linens, laundry, shampoo, soap, a ride into town, breakfast, etc. If you are interested in renting just 1 to 6 beds in shared space, see individual listings for "Mountain Home Cabbin - Bed..." on AirBnB. We are also in the “Appalachian Trail Thru-hiker's Companion", White Blaze guide, Guthook, and AWOL's "AT Guide". The 2nd floor has 4 twin beds and a small, full bathroom. Downstairs is a small kitchen and dining area and a space with 2 futon beds and a small library. The space is air conditioned (or heated, depending upon the season). For before and after pictures of the (historically named) "Cabbin" (and before and after pictures of the main house) look for us up at: mountainhomeinfrontroyal. We also operate a full B&B, with private rooms with their own bathrooms in the main house. Look for that option under Mountain Home in Front Royal, VA. Guests can hike in from the Appalachian Trail, just north of Shenandoah National Park, or drive in and park for free. If you drive in, please be aware that GPS might direct you to the old entrance. We recommend following our directions posted on this listing in Airbnb instead. The Virginia Breeze bus (part of Megabus) provides access from Washington, DC and Dulles Airport, and we can shuttle you from the bus stop in Front Royal to Mountain Home for no additional cost. We also provide a shuttle into Front Royal for dinner, post office, resupply, etc. You can leave a car and shuttle to a hiking spot ("slack pack") for a small fee. We are resident at Mountain Home every night we are open for guests. We greet our guests when they arrive, answer any questions they may have, provide hiking and local activity suggestions, and offer a shuttle to and from town with suggestions on where to eat/shop/find necessary services. When you rent the whole Cabbin, you can either make your own breakfast (we'll provide the basics for eggs, toast, pancakes, granola, yogurt, fruit and juice), or we can serve you breakfast in the maon house. We might even provide s'mores around a small outside fire pit on a given night :-). We provide family friendly games, and there are also a game room and fitness room in the main house. We can also set up bocce or croquet. But if guests just want downtime to rest, read or recharge, that is fine, too. We have a small library for guests as well. We love being close to the Appalachian Trail and an easy walk in either direction. We are just a 4 mile hike or 5 mile drive to Shenandoah National Park. You can canoe, kayak or raft on the Shenandoah River that goes right through Front Royal. We have rehabilitated the 1847 historic Greek Revival Style farmhouse on the property into a full B&B. there are 5 other historic buildings on the property, and we are happy to provide tours. The property is on the National and Virginia historic registers as "Mountain Home". We provide a shuttle into and out of town. Local taxis are also available and the Front Royal Trolley comes out to the trail crossing (1/4 mile from our home) twice a day, every day, from May through August. Once in town, the very low-cost Trolley service runs all over town. Many restaurants, services and the visitor center are all walking distance from historic Main and Chester streets. We have parking for those with vehicles. If you are coming to or from the DC area, contact us about shuttling. When the 4-H Center is open, we can shuttle you to the 4H Center for a swim in their pool (their fees are about $5/day). Wineries and fine dining are just down the road and down the trail. Ask us about great trail hikes, river excursions and where there is a swimming hole.
