Minutes from the Brecon Beacons National Park and walking distance to the town of Llandovery. The Charcoal Hut is private, cosy and intimate. It's the perfect place to relax after a walk or ride in the Beacons and a dip in the hot tub makes a perfect end to the day. We've added lots of little touches, such as freshly ground coffee, fluffy robes and even a pamper pack. The hut and deck are totally secluded and not shared. We have made as few rules as possible, but can never take pets or kids. Hand built by John and a local craftsman, from local larch, and furnished from local suppliers and by local artists, we've created a space we're told is welcoming, relaxing, spacious and rather special. Our woodland and gardens are being brought back to life and nature surrounds you in our charcoal hut. You get exclusive use of all areas - The hut itself, which is more spacious than most, being 8ft tall and 8ft wide by 18ft long, the hot tub which is set to 39c and is petrfect for star gazing and also a deck with camp kitchen facilities and an enclosed shower and composting toilet. The shower is powerful and heated and the loo is a very modern solar powered one. All our guests have told us the shower is superb at night and the water pressure has been a pleasant bonus! From finches to robins, buzzards to cranes and all sorts of small mammals, you're surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. Otters have been seen regularly as have water voles and weasles. We've tried to consider lots of small details, so you're able to unwind and relax here and we've got lots of places where you can sit and read, enjoy outdoor eating, or just soak up the sound of the small woodland stream flowing in the ponds. We've created the deck so that you can enjoy breakfast or a barbecue, whilst watching the woods come to life. And you're walking distance to Llandovery to enjoy some great food, pubs and Welsh hospitality. The Charcoal Hut is set in approx 2 acres, which make up our woodland and garden. Guests are free to roam around the woodland and garden areas. You will have private use of the hut, deck and hot tub and outdoor shower whilst you are staying. There is free parking on site. Please note that parking is for cars or bikes, not lorries or vans. We know you may be coming here to escape and experience some peace, so whilst we live at the cottage, and may work in the woodland, we will not approach the area around the hut during your stay. John will pop down once a day to check the hot tub filter and water levels. We will confirm the time with you when you arrive. Known for the Physicians of Myddfai, the earliest known herbalists, this is a stunning, historic farming community. Myddfai and Llandovery are each a mile and a half from North Lodge. A stone's throw from Brecon Beacons National Park. Motorbike and cycle friendly. The food in town is wonderful, from Tudor's cafe, where you can get a fantastic all day breakfast, to The Bear who serve the most wonderful Polish sausage, and burgers, all from local farms. There's a large artistic community, with potters, painters, wood carvers and rug makers all in the area. Walking and cycling are both amazing, and we are able to give you a guide to six local walks which you can take from our path. Llandovery has it's own train station - which is on the wonderful Heart of Wales line. Two trains per day run through and take you down to Swansea or Cardiff, or up along the line towards Snowdonia. There is also a good local bus, and parking in town costs just £1.50 for the whole day. We're around 35 minutes drive from Brecon, and 45 minutes in the other direction is Carmarthen. Tenby and the coast is under an hour's drive. Llandovery is very popular with motorcyclists, as the roads here are amazing to ride, and you'll get a warm welcome as bikers here too. Myddfai is a small farming community. There are sheep in the fields on our hill - not always close enough to see, but often close enough to hear. Our neighbours keep chickens and ducks (wonderful free range eggs) so you will hear them announce how clever they are when they lay. We cannot accept pets, children or infants. Please do not make a booking and then ask, as we will have to ask you to cancel.
