Renovated and extended former Victorian Headmaster's residence on the edge of the pretty coastal village of Westleigh. Perfectly situated to explore the North Devon Coast and surrounding areas. Beautiful countryside views from every window and a 5 minute walk to the friendly village pub. Access the Tarka Trail at the bottom of the village and walk in to Instow (less than 2 miles) for its beach, numerous pubs, restaurants cafes and deli. Enclosed garden and off road parking for 2 cars. The Old School House originally built in 1876, combines period charm with contemporary and spacious living and enjoys an elevated position overlooking beautiful rolling countryside. Comfortable bedrooms with an extra single sofa bed available if required. Eating out locally is a delight with a huge choice of excellent restaurants and pubs. If you fancy a night in, the modern and spacious kitchen/dining and living area provides a relaxed setting for everyone to enjoy the company. For those wanting to curl up by a fire, to watch a film or just quietly read, then the Snug is the place for you. We have 2 modern shower rooms with solar powered hot water as well as an outside shower (with both hot and cold water) for those times when you return from the beach, sandy wet and cold. So much to do and see........ Lovely walks from the property into the countryside or down to the beach. Access to the traffic-free Tarka Trail, perfect for cyclists and walkers, can be found just beyond the bottom of the village and will take you quickly into Instow. Instow, less than 2 miles away has everything you need for a coastal break. A beach, Hockings Ice cream, The Glorious Oyster, the seafood cafe behind the dunes, serving the most amazing crab sandwiches, oysters, lobster as well as coffee and cake. You can also find great pubs, restaurants, and a superb deli. Stray a little further to the fishing village of Appledore with its Promenade, Quay and even more restaurants, cafes, shops and galleries to explore. During the summer months you can catch the pedestrian ferry from Instow across to Appledore. Westward Ho! is a 15 minute drive away and offers a huge surfing beach with surfing lessons available. Other seaside attractions can also be found in the town including a Teasure Island Golf Course and Go-Karting. Play golf at The Royal North Devon Golf Club on Northam Burrows where the course is shared with grazing sheep and ponies and the sea being just over the pebble ridge. Other nearby attractions include: - The Milky Way Adventure Park - The Big Sheep - The Ultimate Adventure Centre - Tapley Park - RHS Rosemoor Gardens, 35 minutes by car. - Clovelly - an ancient, working fishing village perched on a 400ft cliff with no vehicular access. Wonderful galleries, quaint shops and a pub next to the harbour wall. Pick up the Atlantic Highway (A39) and you are on your way to the rugged North Devon coast's beaches and coves. Head through Barnstaple to get to the well known beaches of Croyde, Woolacoombe and Saunton Sands and in the other direction, you can get to the many beaches in and around Bude on the North Cornish Coast. Located on the outskirts of Westleigh, a pretty coastal village near Instow. Quiet narrow lanes lined with pretty cottages and a village pub with large garden overlooking the estuary. There is also a beautiful church and a cricket ground.....a perfect Devon village away from the crowds. Westleigh village and it renowned local pub is a 5 minute walk away. There is very little parking in the village but the pub, The Westleigh Inn has a large car park. The beautiful beach and village of Instow is also within walking distance.....less than 2 miles - pick up the Tarka Trail at the bottom of the village and walk or cycle in. There are 2 public car parks found at either end of Instow. The furthest car park being the largest and is located next door to North Devon Cricket Club - arguably one of the most picturesque grounds in the country. The Old School House is a perfect base from which to explore North Devon and North Cornwall. Easy access to The Atlantic Highway (A39) you're quickly on your way to places like Clovelly and Hartland on the North Cornish Coast to the west or head east towards Barnstaple and then on to beautiful beaches including Croyde and Woolacombe.
