OLD MATES FARM - POLICE STATION HUT

POLICE STATION HUT Like going bush but not sure about camping? Grab your gear, and come and stay at the Deep Creek Police Station. The photo's show what is supplied. You need to bring every thing else, including bedding (remember it can get cold here in winter), food/drinks, etc. OLD MATES FARM is a working farm located on the Atherton Tablelands. The property is "Closed Gate - Family Friendly - Private Farm". We mostly welcome campers in tents and camper trailers on to our 160 acres of land. The property consists of approximately 30 acres of grazing land, 30 acres of rainforest and 100 acres of dryer forest bordering on to the Herberton National Park. There are a number of toilets and showers ($2 coin for hot shower) that are shared facilities with other guests. This includes guests staying in the HUTS. We have a number of different farm animals that we feed each afternoon. This includes cattle, sheep, miniature horses, goats, buffalo, chickens, geese, ducks and pigs. We feed the animals each afternoon and welcome our guests to join us. This takes around 30 minutes. All guests must check in before sunset (5.30 in mid winter, 6.30 in mid summer). Atherton is the closest township with supermarkets, fuel stations, pubs, and everything else you may need. It is a 15 minute drive from Old Mates Farm to Atherton. Walking, horse and bike trails through the rainforest and linking into to the Herberton National Park trails. Farm animals with feeding at 4.30pm daily. All welcome. Native animals including (if you are lucky) tree kangaroos, platypus, goanna’s, wallabies and bird species. Arboretum – many tree species identified on the tracks and trails. Horse riding available through our neighbour – Wongabel Stables Pet dogs ok. Must be well socialised and restrained. (Not allowed inside the Hut). You should bring the following with you: Bedding - sheets, pillow case, blankets (it can get very cold here in winter at night) Potable drinking water containers. These can be refilled from our potable near the front gate. Fold out chairs (there is a picnic table provided). Insect repellent & mossie coils Esky and or fridge (1 hour maximum use of your generator per day). Use ice or solar panels. Newspaper, fire starters Fire wood is for sale ($30 per 50kg). Axe and tomahawk provided. Lantern and or torch. (The toilet and shower are about 30 metres away) (There is no power in the hut. No lights etc). 90 minutes from Cairns to Old Mates Farm (either Kuranda Hwy via Mareeba, or Gillies Range via Gordonvale). See map. 15 minutes from Old Mates Farm to Atherton, Yungaburra, Malanda, Herberton. 25 Minutes from Old Mates Farm to Lake Barrine, Lake Eacham, Kauri, Tinaroo Dam, Ravenshoe We do not charge a cleaning fee. Please leave the POLICE STATION HUT as you found it. Cooking and eating equipment washed and put away. Floor swept and everything generally tidied up ready for the next guests.
