Unwind completely in this detached private lodge, overlooking a large natural pond, abundant with wildlife. Breathe the fresh air. Listen to the birds. Relax. The lodge is perfectly designed and equipped, a truly comforting retreat. The friendly and helpful owners keep rare breed sheep and pigs, and you are welcome to explore their beautiful gardens. Within 10 minutes walk there are excellent food shops and award-winning cafes and restaurants. All this just 8 miles from historic Cambridge. The lodge has a light and spacious living room overlooking the orchard and pond. It’s a fantastic place to relax and read, listen to music and just enjoy watching the wildlife. The pond attracts dragonflies and damselflies, finches, tits and many other small birds, and even a visiting kingfisher. Its a wildlife haven, including newts and toads, woodpeckers, owls, and you may see an the occasional badger. The kitchen is fully equipped with quality appliances and plenty of crockery. It’s a great place to cook, we have several nearby delicatessens and food stores and the lodge even has its own herb garden. There’s a BBQ and outdoor furniture for al fresco meals. The bedroom is very comfortable and cosy, and beautifully lit. We supply hypoallergenic bedding and Egyptian cotton bed linen. You are virtually guaranteed a good nights sleep. The en-suite shower room has a rain drench shower head and hand held attachment. It’s well stocked with quality toiletries and plenty of fluffy towels. During colder months the lodge is toasty warm with underfloor heating and constant hot water. There are plenty of warm, cosy blankets to make lounging around super snuggly. The building is extremely well ventilated, with velux roof lights and windows to all aspects. Huge picture windows bring in lots of light and wonderful views at any time of year. There’s a desk and chair for home working, and for longer stays we offer a personal laundry service. We like to greet our guests but we also provide a keysafe and detailed instructions how to access the lodge in case we’re out or you arrive late. The lodge is tucked away with its own peaceful garden so we leave our guests to relax and enjoy the privacy. We’re friendly and sociable and happy to recommend restaurants or places to visit, or just to chat. There’s a comprehensive manual in the lodge but if you need anything just let us know, by phone, text or a knock on the door. The lodge is detached and private, on a quiet country lane, just 10 minutes walk from a village with butcher, deli, bakery and corner shop. The village boasts a friendly cafe, a pub/bistro with teepee and dining pods, and an award-winning Indian restaurant. There’s a 5* golf club and spa with guest access, and a separate wellness venture (PAUS) with hilltop bistro, wood fired saunas and hot tubs. There are many excellent pubs and restaurants in the area, some can be reached by lovely walks across fields and along streams, direct from the Lodge. If you enjoy wild swimming there are many great places to take a dip on the nearby river Great Ouse and the Cam. It’s a fantastic and little-known feature of this area. Cambridge is a wonderful historic city, a great place to just wander around or we can help you organise a tour. Why not try punting along the river Cam? It’s one of the best ways to see the colleges. Ely, St Ives and Saffron Walden are also well worth a visit, as is the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, with its fantastic array of vintage military aircraft. We are on a practice route for the flying displays so you will occasionally see Spitfires and Hurricanes flying overhead when staying at Rosemead Lodge. There is private parking on the property. It’s a ten minute walk to the village with deli/farm shop, butcher, baker, and food store. Within a short drive there’s a supermarket. Several supermarkets and food companies deliver to the village, please discuss with us if you’d like to arrange a delivery prior to your arrival. Cambridge is a half hour drive. Parking is plentiful in the city but expensive, there are several park & ride sites on the outskirts. There is a regular but infrequent bus service to Cambridge from the village, and a very regular bus service from a nearby village. Ely, IWM Duxford and Saffron Walden are 30-40 minutes drive. There are several taxi companies available for both short and longer journeys. Let us know if we can help with transport. The lodge is situated in an old orchard with a large natural pond, a private and separate part of our garden. It’s part of a working small holding. In separate meadows we keep Coloured Ryeland sheep, one of England’s oldest breeds, dating back more than seven centuries. They are quite friendly and rather cuddly. There are hives with honey bees in the meadow. In the spring and summer months we also keep Gloucester Old Spot pigs. They’re very funny to watch, a source of great entertainment. We have some lovely sculptures in the gardens and nice places to sit and relax. The meadow leads to a public footpath network with some wonderful walks around the village and beyond. Our guests are free to wander round and enjoy the animals, we just ask that you close any gates behind you. If you’re in the gardens or meadow you will almost definitely meet our two flat coated retrievers, they’re very friendly and enthusiastic! And we are often working or just chilling outside, so do stop and say hello.
