The Cottage @ Five Dogs Farm

The Cottage is a charming , two story space for Glamping (glamor camping). It provides privacy, nature, farm animals grazing, deer leaping, a small winding creek, hammocks and fire pit. The 'simple pump' give delicious and pure water. There is no electricity so candles and oil lamps light the inside for a romantic get away. Four air mattresses are provided with a cover for each. Bring sleeping bags! The cottage is heated by a charming wood stove. Wood is abundant in the forest or bring your own! Watch sheep and goats graze in the pasture. This pastoral setting is a place to rest and regroup. Artists will have multiple venues! Please walk up to the main part of the farm to enjoy the animals! Goats are milked daily during season. You will drive down the field to the Cottage. All wheel / 4 wheel drive is important. It is best to arrive before dark but if you will be late notify us and we will leave on a lantern. This is a farm and animals can make noises at night! A four wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle is required to park near the cottage. Other vehicles can park in the main parking area and walk to the cottage. Guests may isolate in the Cottage, or venture up to the farm for goat milking (when in season) and other farm experiences. Free range chickens, guineas and peacocks add to the farm ambiance. Please do not venture into cattle pasture without me...we do have a bull!!! His name is Alvin and he has never hurt anyone...however, you should never trust a male animal! This is an off grid cottage without electricity, WIFI or running water. Delicious water is obtained from a simple pump next to the cottage. The cottage is heated with a wood stove. Abundant fire wood can be obtained in the forest. Air mattresses are provided. Bring sleeping bags. The cottage uses gas lamp light, candles and flashlights after dark. Outdoors there are solar powered lights. A pit latrine is available at the back of the cottage. The Cottage at Five Dogs Farm is 10 min to the Town of Amherst where groceries, pharmacy, gas, restaurants, bank and medical facilities are located. You are close but feel like you are a million miles away from civilization! Sweet Briar College, Randolph College, Lynchburg University and Liberty University are less than 30 minutes away. We encourage guests in the Cottage to walk up to the main farm and enjoy the animals! There is a pit latrine behind the cottage and a small potty inside for night time use. The Cottage has no running water but the simple pump gives as much water as you wish to have. This is a camping experience with the glamor of a cottage to shelter you from the elements. Board games and puzzles are provided.
