Trunk Bay downstairs self-contained room
Hi! We paused this listing first because it was badly damaged by Hurricane Irma and then due to Covid 19, but we're back – repaired and upgraded! The outdoor shower that our guests loved is still there, only now it has hot water. There's also a new kitchen made of hardwood we were able to salvage after Irma. Great news! The beach is still there, too, and still a just ten minute walk away. Always popular for being simple and beautiful in a fantastic location, now it's the same, but even better! Our house is about 350ft above a beautiful beach. The family home is upstairs and this self contained space down below is ideal for one or two people, or a couple, but works well for up to four. There is one double bed, a single and plenty of room for a fourth to sleep on an air mattress. The kitchen has running h&c water, a stove/oven, fridge freezer and water dispenser. Outside there's a long deck with comfortable seating and a small lawn area overlooking the beach. We've also added a screen on the outdoor deck for extra privacy and so you don't have to see our laundry area! The outdoor shower has been fully upgraded with fresh tiling, hot water and a shower seat so you can sit or stand and enjoy the view of the lush bush garden area. Some of our guests stay here and use it as a base from which to explore the BVI; others enjoy the quiet and the views, staying home between walks down to the beach. However you want to come and go, you'll be welcome. Guests have almost all of the downstairs of this house. It consists of a wooden deck covered by the verandah above, with the room at one end of the building. The owners use the laundry room at the other end of the deck and access to and from the car park is shared via two sets of outdoor steps. There is space for a guest's car at the top of the driveway. Guests will be welcomed and shown the room and their living space. After that it is entirely up to them how much they see us! Usually our guests have questions - they're curious about the island, itinerary options, practicalities, history, culture and plenty of other queries. We are very happy to do whatever we can to help you make the most of your stay so please feel free to ask us any questions you have. Rest assured, however, that the space is yours and, once we know you're in and comfortable, we'll respect it as such. We live in a wonderful bay with several other houses overlooking the beach, but not many! This place has a country feel, despite being only 7 minutes over the hill from town. This is a quiet neighbourhood with a few residential and rental houses sharing the view over the beach. Rental car: Our top recommendation for getting around and having the freedom to explore the whole island, access shops, etc. There are many rental options online. Just make sure they have an office and cars at or near your port of entry. eg Beef Island airport, Road Town and West End ferries. You don't want to have to take an expensive taxi to get to your rental car! Taxis: These are, as mentioned, expensive. Airport to our house is around $15 per head That said, plenty of our short-stay guests use them and more and more taxi drivers are now learning where we live! Walking: Serious hikers might enjoy it but factor in the extreme steepness and the tropical heat and ... you better be serious. Hitchhiking: Can be a great way to go because you meet local people, but it takes time, sun protection, a water bottle and patience. Got those? Use that thumb. Motorbike/Scooters: An excellent, cheap way to go, BUT be aware that the roads on island are not just steep and winding, but also potholed and otherwise poorly maintained. For this reason, I don't recommend bikes to guests unless they are serious, regular riders who are comfortable the above hazards. Bicycle: Are you crazy? - Cat alert! Yeah, we have three. They live upstairs but get curious when people appear downstairs. They might come by to seek love and attention. - we recommend guests rent a car. It helps you to explore the whole island and makes your stay easier. We are in a rural area (though near town, you wouldn't know it) and although the roads are in good condition, the hills are steep. Amenities are a short drive away, but too far and steep to walk to.
