Large, characterful cottage in Buxworth
Lovely spacious cottage, away from it all, close to the small village of Buxworth and a perfect base from which to explore the Peak District. It is a short, off-road walk to The Peak Forest Trail, from where, areas around Buxworth, Chinley and further afield can be explored. It is a 10 minute walk to the popular and historic Bugsworth Basin which forms the start of a canal network. The beautiful village of Hayfield, with access to Kinder Scout is a short drive away (4 miles). You will have access to the whole of the cottage which extends over 3 floors. It sleeps 5 people by making use of sofa bed in the back lounge, which comfortably sleeps 1 adult or 2 smaller people (It is narrower than a double bed, but wider than a single bed). If you are a party of 5, and the sofa bed can only accommodate 1 of you, there is a second sofa bed in the dining room. Built in 1869, the cottage is full of character and still has some of the original features, including the stone floors and arched ceilings on the lower ground floor. The ground floor has 2 reception rooms, the front lounge, which has a tv, and the rear lounge which is a very light, calm room and has views over the countryside to the rear. There is also a small size snooker table provided and a table chess set in this room. The lower ground floor has a good sized kitchen with fridge, washer, dryer, microwave and the dining room. Food basics including salt, pepper, cooking oil, coffee, tea, milk, sugar, bread, butter, eggs, orange juice are provided along with a complimentary full size bottle of wine. The first floor has a good sized double bedroom, a good sized single bedroom, and a modern bathroom with underfloor heating. Shower gel, soap, shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste are provided. The property has recently gone onto the holiday rental market after being refurbished. Many of the facilities provided including the beds, bedding, sofas, chairs are therefore brand new and much of the property has been redecorated. Wi-fi is available throughout the property (Sky super fast). There is plenty of parking directly outside the property. There is a short slope of about 3 feet between the footpath and the front door. It is not particularly steep, but may be an access issue for some, and requires caution when icy. The front door key is in a key safe at the front of the property, and the key code will be provided on booking. We live 4 miles from the cottage in Hayfield, and are contactable by phone or email. We can also be at the cottage to greet you, on arrival, if you wish. The cottage is in a quiet part of the countryside. If you live in a town or suburbia you may find it to be ‘out in the sticks’ and a perfect escape from the pressures of modern life. The small village of Buxworth is less than a mile away and Chinley, which has more amenities is a similar distance. Here you will find a convenience store, a chemist, a fish and chip shop, and a number of eateries. As mentioned above, the picturesque village of Hayfield is 4 miles away, which, nestled at the foot of Kinder Scout, is very popular with hikers. There is also a good selection of eateries there. Chapel en le frith and Whaley Bridge are also nearby. Unless you are a keen cyclist, the best way to get to the cottage is by car. Please note that if you are bringing a dog(s), then you need to include this in the booking, underneath where you select the number of people. There is a guidebook at the property with more details of the property and local area.
