Converted from an ancient barn, The Milking Parlour is part of Little Wadstray farm. Very peaceful and surrounded by rural views it is ten minutes from the beautiful beaches of the South Hams, close to the picturesque towns of Dartmouth, Totnes and Kingsbridge and an hour away from Dartmoor. A great spot from which to explore the beauties of South Devon. It has a fully fitted kitchen, a log burner, wifi and all creature comforts and has been finished in an 'industrial/French farmhouse' style. My house is adjacent to The Milking Parlour, so I'm always on hand to help, or advise at need. If guests prefer privacy though, I keep a low profile and there is plenty of space, as there are two acres of ground around the properties. The Milking Parlour is a converted barn and part of Little Wadstray farm. There are two adjacent properties, one being my home. The access road to Little Wadstray is shared only with our closest neighbour, Lower Wadstray Farm. The setting is very rural with views of green fields on all sides. There is no sea view (sadly!) but the sea can be glimpsed at the crest of the hill, just as you approach the property. It's just three miles away - less than ten minutes drive - to Slapton Sands, a three mile long beach and the drive down offers exceptional views. The road beside Slapton Sands separates the sea from Slapton Ley, a freshwater expanse, which is an area of scientific natural interest. Despite it's name, Slapton Sands is a pebbly beach. There are many beaches to choose from in South Devon, some 'bucket and spade' and others, usually involving a coastal walk, still wild and untouched. Seals are regularly seen. As well as coastal walks, Dartmoor is about an hour's drive away and offers everything from strolls and picnics along the river Dart, to ten plus mile hikes over the moor - and there are plenty of pubs. Dartmouth is the nearest town to The Milking Parlour, about ten minutes drive away. Home to the Royal Naval College, it's a pretty town, great for viewing yachts and fishing boats and everything in between and offers river boat tours, connecting with the steam railway, or riverside villages. Totnes and Kingsbridge are both 9 miles away. Totnes has a thriving market on Fridays and Saturdays and the town itself has interesting small shops. It's known for being a creative hub and still has a 'hippy' vibe. Kingsbridge is often called a 'real' Devon town, being more sedate but it has some interesting shops and pretty places to sit along the estuary quay. Devon is well known for it's good food and produce. There are pubs and restaurants for all tastes and pockets. The Seahorse in Dartmouth has just been voted best restaurant in Devon and in the top 50 in the UK. Jane Baxter, often seen on Saturday Morning Kitchen runs Wild Artichoke, which has pop up nights at various venues in the area. It's well worth checking out their website - they do takeaway nights too. And then there's the rest....old school 'carvery' pubs, fresh fish and chips....Oh and there's Salcombe ice-cream, Sharpham Wine and many a locally brewed beer and cider! There is plenty of parking outside The Milking Parlour. A car is essential. Nothing is really accessible on foot - it's a mile to the nearest pub/s but not an easy walk - and the sea (3 miles) is reached by a very steep hill. Guests have brought bikes - even a tandem - and enjoyed that but I would say it's only for the fittest as there are many hills. The nearest train station is Totnes (nine miles).
