A family-friendly farm that offers opportunities for couples, families or small/large groups to create special memories. When booked together our two units sleep up to 14 (up to 16 using a sofa and a floor mattress). Our farm is the perfect place for unique family adventures, family reunions, retreats, parties of any type and intimate weddings - all in an idyllic country setting. We offer educational tours and introductions to our animals for guests that are interested. The guesthouse has a queen bed in the bedroom, with a full-size bed in a cozy sleeping nook behind a sliding barn door in the bedroom. Guests are welcome to explore the farm, although any interaction with the animals must be with the host present. There is a private grill, outdoor seating and a dining area available on the front porch of the cottage. However, guests should feel free to use the shared courtyard and fire pit area with swings for gathering together as well. The main home front porch and shared courtyard area with party lights is open for guests to enjoy. There is a pond with a dock on the back of the property for those that might like to do some catch-and-release fishing or swimming or use the paddle boats. Any activities while at the pond are at a guest’s own risk and children must have parental supervision, as there is no lifeguard. For us part of the fun of hosting guests is meeting with them as it fits into their visit. We are retired and live on site so we are typically available to answer questions or to give educational farm tours and make introductions to our animals for those guests who are interested. When we are not outdoors, we prefer texts, phone calls, or (Hidden by Airbnb) IM’s rather than knocking on the front door so we can avoid the overly excited barking from the dogs. Living on a farm in the country has been a whisper of my heart since I was a young girl - thus the farm name, A Heart’s Whisper. It is the perfect setting to find rest for your weary soul; reflect on your own heart’s desires; and reconnect with family, friends, and nature. Our farm is nestled conveniently between Lexington and the Red River Gorge area. An easy 15-minute drive to the Gorge offers stunning views, cave kayaking, some of the best hiking and rock climbing opportunities in the U.S., and an exhilarating zip lining adventure. For those who don’t mind driving a bit further, we can certainly recommend other exciting adventures available in Kentucky. There’s something for everyone here. Although the Gorge area does offer a shuttle service for hikers and kayakers, other public transportation services are limited, so a personal vehicle will be your best bet for getting to most everything you will want to do and enjoy. That being said, country roads can sometimes be tricky to drive on and our gravel driveway is a good distance off the road and up a bit of a hill, so keep this in mind - particularly in the wintertime. I drive a Camry without trouble, unless there is a heavy snowstorm. Then I prefer our four-wheel drive SUV. Please keep in mind this is a working farm complete with chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, alpacas and a couple dairy cows that sometimes create noises, make messes and procreate, oh my! You will also encounter bugs (bring spray), loads of toads/frogs and lizards, occasional turtles, wild turkeys, deer, raccoons and you may even see a snake - although this is rare thanks to our chickens. For your safety and the safety of our animals, guests should never enter fenced paddocks or animal buildings or enclosures without the host present. Also, our animals are on very specific diets, so we ask that you not feed them anything that we have not provided to you or approved beforehand.
