Magical. That’s the most often used descriptor of Rosecroft by decades of visitors since it has been in the family. Dating back to 1639, 20+ acres including horses and chickens, Rosecroft is the site of a former plantation and home to Maryland’s first Tax Collector, when St. Mary’s City was the capital of Maryland. Steeped in history and natural beauty, you will enjoy sweeping water views and majestic trees, freedom to walk the grounds, and a unique opportunity to stay at a historic place. While built in 1999 and offering modern amenities, the house was designed by architect Brendan O'Neill in the style of a Southern Maryland historic home. It is furnished with antique decor befitting a historic property on the water. Waiting for you is a large, eat-in, well appointed kitchen. A grill and numerous outdoor spaces for your meals. Multiple fireplaces. Comfortable shared areas. Spacious rooms. In warmer months, the large pool, open seasonally, is 3-8 feet deep and crabs are plentiful right from the dock. In the cooler months, you can go for oysters and rockfish. Keep an eye out for the bald eagles that frequent Rosecroft as well as monarch butterflies on migration. Rosecroft is remarkable partly because of its seclusion, sitting on a point surrounded by the St. Mary’s River. You feel like you have left the rest of the world far behind. You can certainly spend all of your time here enjoying the property. If you are up for exploring, history buffs will enjoy historic St. Mary's City just up the street, Point Lookout State Park with picnic areas and beaches ten miles south, Solomon’s Island 20 minutes north, and the best restaurant in the area is only eight minutes away. 2 kayaks provided for your use on a private beach outside the back door There is a private boat slip available. If you are visiting with a boat, Smith Island famous for their cakes is one hour, St. George's Island is one half hour, Chesapeake Bay is 20 minutes, exploring St. Mary's River is always enjoyable, and that best restaurant is accessible by boat in just 15 minutes. We have enjoyed hosting fishing groups, girlfriends having a weekend away, family visiting their kid at St. Mary's College, and professionals wanting an alternative remote work location. We would love to host you next. Always available by cell or text On a point surrounded by the St. Mary's River. Private driveway and parking plus private boat slip. Owner lives in the primary house on the other side of the property and also makes use of the grounds, dock and pool when not in use by guests.
