My place is good for families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets). Built in 1847, The Old School is a beautiful Grade II listed country house in the village of Icklesham, between the historic towns of Rye & Hastings, which was completely renovated to a high standard by the owners. It can sleep 8 people in 4 double bedrooms and we have 2 travel cots, 1 Moses basket and 3 sleeping mats and bags which are suitable for children to use in the bedrooms - so in total 11 plus babies. It has a fantastic large open plan kitchen and dining/living room with a full height vaulted ceiling and beautiful open fireplace. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a WC. Outside, there is a lovely fully enclosed lawned garden with a large patio seating area and a summer house, complete with bar - great fun for the summer! We have off street parking for 3 cars with additional public parking in the village sports ground behind the house ...where there is also a kids playground - fantastic for little ones. Across the road is one of the area's most famous pubs, The Queen's Inn which does great food, is family/pet friendly and has fantastic views of the Brede Valley. Guests can access all of the house and garden as it is rented as a whole. We have a house manager available 24/7 via the phone who lives nearby and can visit in case of emergencies. The Old School is located in a beautiful part of East Sussex, deep in the heart of 1066 country. Icklesham village is located approximately six miles east of Hastings on the A259, Hastings to Rye Road. Icklesham stands on the ridge between the coast and river Brede, offering views to the hills at Fairlight to the south and the Brede valley on the other side. The village has several public houses. The church is dedicated to All Saints and St Nicolas and dates back to the 12th century and the 1066 walk (which runs from Pevensey to Rye via Battle) goes through the village. From hiking, cycling, kite-surfing, shopping, eating great food, visiting historic castles, art galleries or public gardens, there is lots to do for all ages in the area. Upon arrival, you will be given a Welcome Pack with information on activities, great local pubs and restaurants, shopping and places to visit. You may want to browse these websites to give you an idea of the options; Visit 1066 Country, Visit Rye and Sussex Tourism Our recommended highlights are:- Visit the historic town of Rye– walk the lanes, browse the shops, climb the Church Tower for amazing views over Romney Marshes, have a cream tea in the numerous tea rooms or a pint at the Mermaid Inn. Go for a walk or bike ride – you will be spoilt for choice for which route to take – the Brede Valley, Rye Nature Reserve etc. Visit Camber Beach – an award-winning beach with rolling sand-dunes – one of the only sandy beaches in the South East. Activities available nearby at Rye Water Sports, The Kite Surf Center and Full Throttle Boat Charters. Treat yourself to a hair or beauty treatment at The Rye Retreat. Take the kids to see the animals at the Rare Breeds Farm near Ashford. Visit a winery and sample the local wines and ciders – Chapel Downs Winery in Tenterden. There is bus service outside the house on the A259 with buses to Hastings and Rye. Both towns have train stations serving various routes. Taxis are available in the area but need to be pre-booked particularly if needing one at night.
