The Old Map Shop
The Old Map Shop was originally part of the village school. In more recent times it was a map shop, but then lay empty for a number of years before it was sensitively converted into a holiday property in 2020 - 2021. You have access to the whole house. The house is just for you. There is just room to sit on the balcony outside the kitchen door to enjoy the views. We live a short distance from the Old Map Shop and are available via text or e-mail to answer any questions. The Old Map Shop is in the historic Lake District village of Caldbeck, which nestles under High Pike, the most northerly of Wainwright’s fells. The village has many historic buildings, including St Kentigerns Church, the resting place of John Peel. There is a village pond complete with ducks. There are numerous walks from the village - our favourite short walk is to the Howk where there is an old mill and a waterfall in a picturesque gorge. The house is approximately 500m from the village pub, shops and cafes. It is very near to the Cumbria Way. Public transport is very limited so you will need a car, bike or a good pair of legs. There is a type 2 electric car charger. We charge £5 per charge and will ask you to confirm how many times you have charged at the end of your stay. There is no private parking, but there is usually space to park on the common land which surrounds the house. There is no charge for this.
