New for Winter 2021 - this recently renovated and cosy Welsh miner’s terraced cottage in the peaceful village of Six Bells in Abertillery, South Wales. The village is surrounded by mountains, woodland and overlooked by the famous Guardian monument. The cottage is directly opposite Six Bells Park which is perfect for children. This dog, walker and cyclist-friendly property retains some of its original character and is perfect for families or friends looking to explore surrounding areas. Bedrooms/ Sleeps: 3 bedrooms sleeping up to 6 although this is a small, terraced cottage so I would suggest bedroom 2 is suitable for one adult or two young children. Floor 1 Bedroom 1 (Sandringham): Double bed (4’6”), 2 bedside cabinets, bean bag chair and a wardrobe with hangers. The hair dryer is in this room. Floor 1 Bedroom 2 (Balmoral): Single day bed (3’) with a trundle to make it into a double and 2 bedside cabinets. Floor 2 Bedroom 3 (Highgrove): Double bed (4’6”), 2 bedside cabinets and a bean bag chair. This is a loft room with a low sloping ceiling. Bed linen and towels: Bed linen, bed throws, mattress/ pillow protectors, bath sheets, bathmat and a hand towel for the kitchen and bathroom are provided. Each bed is made up with duvets and there are 2 pillows per person. Note that the day bed when opened out with the trundle has 2 single duvets sets. The second set is stored in the day bed drawers. Lounge-Dining Room: 3-seater sofa with chaise longue extensions, fireplace, side tables, dining table that sits 6 and side board. Bean bag chairs in Sandringham and Highgrove could be used here too. LED candles are available to use and safer if you have dogs staying. This room is decorated over Christmas and the New Year. Kitchen: Fridge freezer, cooker and induction hob, washing machine, toaster, kettle, sink, heated towel rail and fully equipped with cookware and utensils. There is a dinner service and cutlery for up to 6 people. Tea towel, washing up liquid, cleaning products, anti-bacterial hand soap and sanitiser are provided. Olive oil, salt & pepper, mixed herbs, teabags, coffee and sugar are available. Bathroom: On the first floor with bath, thermostatic shower with fixed rainfall shower head, handset and screen, sink, toilet, cabinet and heated towel rail. LED candles, toilet paper, cleaning products and anti-bacterial hand soap and sanitiser are provided. Garden: A series of planted terraces connected by steps and including a covered bicycle rack for up to 4 bikes (no locks provided), a gas BBQ (Summer), table with 4 chairs and a low bench. The garden is secure for dogs but is not suitable for children to play in, however you have Six Bells Park and tennis/ basketball courts opposite the cottage. The Guardian can be seen from the garden. Parking: Plenty of on-street parking is available on both sides of the road, preferably in front of the cottage and avoiding the gates to the park. Nearest supermarket: There is a Tesco superstore and petrol station less than a mile away and a Premier convenience store a short walk away. Eating and Drinking: Six Bells is a small community. There is a café in Six Bells Park run by volunteers that is open most days from March to October as well as an ice cream van that visits the road. There is a very popular takeaway food outlet offering pizza, fish & chips and kebabs; it’s a short walk from the cottage but also delivers. There are plenty of restaurants, pubs and bars, cafes and takeaway food outlets in Abertillery and surrounding areas - previous guests have enjoyed The Henrison Inn. Jason and I will be contactable throughout your stay. We are only 1.5 hours away but if there is an emergency at the property we have a neighbour John and local housekeeper Pippa available to support you. Peaceful and picturesque ex-colliery village near Abertillery in Blaenau Gwent. The village is overlooked by ‘Guardian’, an impressive 20 metre high memorial sculpture - Wales answer to the Angel of the North. The memorial was built onto the site of the old colliery, 50 years after the Six Bells Colliery disaster. Six Bells is perfect if you are keen to explore the local and surrounding areas, are a keen walker, mountain biker or cyclist. The cottage is less than 20 minutes from the edge of the Brecon Beacons. If planning on going to Cardiff for an event e.g. sport or concert - the cottage is less than 45 from the Motorpoint Arena and Principality/Millennium Stadium. Satellite navigation using the post code will take you straight to the property. On street parking is available on both sides of road. We would recommend parking in front of the cottage and if this is not possible, please avoid parking in front of the Six Bells Park gates. The nearest train station is Llanhilleth (2.5 km). Entertainment: Large screen Smart TV with streaming apps e.g. Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ in the lounge and there is a second Smart TV in Balmoral with a connection cable for games consoles (not included) – a perfect extra space for children/teens. All bedrooms have Bluetooth speakers and charging points (USB and wireless). 4 tennis rackets and tennis/soft balls are available for the tennis courts in Six Bells Park. Popular board games, puzzles and coffee table books are available including one about the Guardian. WiFi: Free and excellent Wi-Fi coverage throughout the property, all rooms include hardwired ethernet points. Workspace: There is no dedicated workspace but there is a six-seater dining table and chairs close to power points for plugging in a laptop. Pets: Up to two dogs allowed downstairs unless assistance dogs. Dog bowls and biscuits are provided together with throws for the sofa should you want them to join you for a cwtsh/cwtch. There is a stair gate provided and the garden is fully enclosed. Dogs are not allowed in Six Bells Park but there are some lovely walks nearby, including to and around the Guardian. We would appreciate it if you could pick up after your dog(s) in the garden and around Six Bells - thank you. Heating: Electric panel heaters throughout and an electric replica wood burner in lounge. There are two additional oil filled radiators in the lounge which are easily moved. We will aim to put the heating on throughout the cottage prior to your arrival. Other amenities: Iron and ironing board, clothes drying rack, clothesline and pegs, vacuum cleaner, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguisher and first aid kit.
