BRIEF HISTORICAL OVERVIEW The building was commissioned around 1892 by architect Giuseppe Cerutti, a follower of the so-called "Eclettico" style, who was also the creator of the impressive Civic Museum of Natural History in Milan for the first "EXPO Italiana" in 1881. The complex was owned by General Clemente Luigi Franceschini, King Umberto I Field Assistant, and his wife Lady Edith Carrington Boothby, from Manchester. The building was designed by melting - according to eclecticism - some influences of the Venetian Gothic, since the Bergamo area had been territory of the Serenissima Republic of Venice until the previous century, with the English contemporary "Queen Ann Style", very appreciated by the family. This style is currently characterizing the architectural complex, whose name was then modified in Villa Edith.
