The perfect place to get-away from it all or to use as base camp for those wishing to explore the Blue Ridge Mountains. Anglers will be in awe of native trout streams, Newberry Creek (bordering the property) and Curtis Creek, plus mountain bike trails are close by. The location is remote, yet within 30 minutes of Asheville Location! The cabin is easy to find and is outside the quaint town of Old Fort. Asheville is an approximate 30-minute drive, as is the Blue Ridge Parkway. Chimney Rock, Grandfather Mountain and Blowing Rock are approximately 1-1.5 hours away. Lake James and Lake James State Park are approximately 45 minutes away. Looking for small towns? Old Fort and Marion are for you. Old Fort offers an art gallery, state museum, antique mall, grocery store, and other retailers. Downtown Marion is a walkable, picturesque community filled with taprooms, a music hall, restaurants, and retailers. Old Fort is a town of approximately 900 residents. While the community is experiencing changes, including the opening of Hillman Brewing and next to them is the Kitsbow Old Fort Ride House, a gathering place for Cyclists & Outdoor Enthusiasts, It is still your small mountain town community. Marion, a fifteen-20 minute drive, offers more in terms of evening entertainment. Downtown Marion is home to a pinball/arcade family-friendly bar (The Feisty Goldfish), Keeper's Cut Meadery (winery), Mica Town Brewing, Refinery 13 (13 taps), Crabby Abby's Bar & Grill, Burrito Bros., McDowell Local, an art gallery, Bruce's Fabulous Foods for week-day lunch, Simply Bakery, Artesana Ice Cream, and other retailers. Dog Friendly - yes ✔️ Cat Friendly - no ❌ The entire home is 1.5 stories with two bedrooms and one bath on the lower level and king bedroom upstairs with a hallway bath. One downstairs bedroom is small and better suited to a teenager or child. Best suited for 4 adults and no more than two children. Wi-Fi and DirectTV are on site. Cell phone service is spotty, landline telephone upstairs and downstairs. Outdoors, you'll find the property borders a roaring trout stream. Enjoy the view from the covered front porch, or open side deck with wooded views, outdoor fire pit, outdoor stairs to the creek and a handicap ramp to the yard and parking area. The handicap ramp provides wheelchair access to the house. Guests may fish for trout, using the section bordering our property, and NC Wildlife regulations are at the house. The property is bordered by U.S. Forest Service lands within the Pisgah National Forest. It is a quiet, peaceful region. There are a few neighboring homes, no one is "on top" of our property. Newberry Creek Trail is located at the end of the road and is a gorgeous, easy hike. Mountain biking trails and hiking trails are inside the Curtis Creek Recreation Area. Pick up maps and other visitor information at the McDowell Visitor Center in downtown Old Fort. 91 S. Catawba Avenue, Old Fort, NC. You will need a personal vehicle to enjoy your stay. Taxi service is available in Marion, NC and Asheville, NC. Marion cab service is 828-652-TAXI. Recently, guests accessed Uber for a day trip to Asheville! Marion also has Uber service. Downtown Marion offers two taprooms, one brewery, a winery, and a music hall. Mica Town Brewing, Refinery 13, Spillway Bridge & Music Hall, Crabby Abby’s Restaurant and Bar (dinner service only), McDowell Local, Burrito Bros., Bruce's Fabulous Foods (weekday lunch service only), Simply Bakery, Artesana Ice Cream, and Mr. Bob's Donuts. Airports - Asheville Regional Airport - 45 minute Charlotte Douglas International Airport 2.0 Hour Greenville International Airport - 2 Hours The interior of the cabin is not suited for children under the age of 5 (yet children under 5 are welcome). There is a stone fireplace, gas logs, wooden stairs, and a second-story loft. These are a few reasons we chose to not be included in the "family-friendly" Air BnB category. The cabin is comfortable, cozy and surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. We do not recommend children of any age be allowed to play unsupervised outdoors. Wildlife can surprise any of us! A cleaning fee of $125.00 is required and collected by AirBnB. All linens are provided. Please be certain to let us know the number of guests and we will leave towels, washcloths, etc. Beside the washer/dryer, you will find a built-in clothes hamper for dirty towels/linens. Please use this hamper as linens are soiled. Linens are provided, towels, the kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, serving items, etc. The pantry is stocked with basics, salt/pepper, oil. Guests bring their own coffee (Mr. Coffee coffee pot), tea, and other staples needed for cooking. Trash - Prefer you leave bagged trash inside the kitchen area, close to the back door. You may place BAGGED trash inside the trash toter located at the back of the deck. Remember, wildlife is all around and will be tempted to tear into any trash left outdoors. You will find a county trash site, within 10 minutes of home. At the intersection of Highway 70 and Curtis Creek Road, turn left driving east on Hwy. 70. County trash site is on left, across from Shuford's Convenience Store. It is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, no fees.
