Relax at this unique and tranquil getaway. Private and secluded accommodation with all the home comforts you require, providing the perfect base to explore the Highlands. Stunning views over Glen Urquhart towards the mountains of Glen Affric in the distance, only 5 miles from Loch Ness. The property face south west and there are lovely views down the glen with plenty of sunshine. Dramatic weather brings equally dramatic views too! Inside you have a cosy home with all modern conveniences within an acre of woods and garden. There is a cosy wood burning stove for cooler evenings. The owners, if in, share the wider outdoors space but you have your own home with patio area with spectacular views and separate entrance and parking. If you wish to get involved there is always wood to be chopped on the grounds but if you don't seek us out you will have complete privacy.Standard double bed (upstairs), shower and separate bath, open plan living areas.Ideally suited to couples, pairs or solo adventurers! Guests are free to wander around any part of our grounds. We live in the adjoining cottage however we respect your privacy and won’t bother you. Of course if you need anything, then don’t hesitate to ask. This is an area of deep rebellious history and outstanding natural beauty with forests, lochs and mountains all around. We live in Glen Urquhart, which has forestry trails at the bottom of our hill and the Affric Kintail Way (Dumnadrochit to Morvich 44 mile route) passes within a 15 minute walk to our house. Loch Meiklie shimmers in our view and is lovely to walk to or take a dip. Corrimony chambered cairn is also in our Glen and is around (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) yours old! - well worth a visit. Five miles away is Drumnadrochit which has cafes, a pub, shops, a village green and is the starting point for walks to Divach Falls, Craigmonie and Balmacaan Woods and the famous and picturesque Urquhart Castle (which also has a car park if you are driving there). Urquhart Castle was a stronghold which played a major part in the Scottish Wars of Independence and passed between the Scots and English many times. For distillery visits and tastings your closest are the Glen Ord Distillery (13 miles) and the Tomatin Distillery (21 miles). Inverness (only 30 minutes away) is our nearest city with interesting architecture, built around the river. The oldest house is Abertaff House, built in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Leakey's bookshop, which was the Old Gaelic Church built in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , was used as a temporary hospital during the Jacobite uprising of (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) ! Eden Court has a theatre, cinema, gallery and restaurant - one of many nice eateries to be found in the city. Inverness marina hosts RIB or Cruiser trips out in the Moray Firth for your chance to see dolphins and other marine life. A bit further afield, it is possible to explore the picturesque west coast, such as Skye and Ullapool; or the east coast such as the Black Isle, in day trips. We are centrally located and this area will appeal to walkers, adventurers, explorers and those who want to to just chill out and watch the views and the wildlife! We have many red deer and red squirrels around our home and if you are very lucky you will have a sighting of a pine marten. Enjoy your trip! The access to the cottage is approx half a mile up a rough farm track. Most cars are fine (we do it everyday) if you take it slow and drive to one side. However if you are in a low slung sports car or have low front spoilers then you may be best to leave your car in the village of Balnain and walk up. We won't accept any responsibility for damage to your car, but we will happily bring your bags up if you have concerns. The stunning view from the guest accommodation is the reward for the steep bumpy track!
