Character cottage in stunning location. Sleeps 4 (1 double, 1 twin). All rooms face south with views over the pond. Three acres of water and wildlife gardens. Ideal for walkers, bird watchers and all those with an interest in wildlife. 50% of our profits go to supporting the wildlife garden. Please note that it is essential to have a car here, and for safety reasons, please check with us first, if you wish to bring children under the age of 12, or anyone with a mobility issue. Many thanks. This light and spacious cottage sleeps 4, in one double and one twin room. We provide comfortable, quality beds, with feather duvets (non-feather available on request). Please note that we no longer supply towels and bed linen. There is a bath/shower room upstairs and a second bathroom downstairs, plus a boot room with clothes drying space. The sitting room has French windows onto the garden, and an inglenook fireplace. We supply logs for the fire in winter, but for safety reasons you may not use the fire in summer. (There is full central heating). There is also a dining room with a window seat, and a large kitchen with a table in the bay window - both ideal sites for bird watching. All rooms overlook the ponds. Outside, the lawn and flowerbeds near the house give way to a wildlife garden. Follow the paths around the two ponds, or meander down the ancient orchard. Bring your wellies to paddle in the stream, or relax on a lounger... with the ducks settled nearby. Come and find a peace and tranquility that you thought no longer existed. The owner retains two rooms in the house for storage, but does not need access during your stay. This is a working wildlife garden and we come in to tend to it three days per week (if you are interested, you are welcome to help, but there is no pressure to do so) otherwise the cottage and grounds are all yours. There is parking for two cars. The garage is available to store bicycles (but not cars). The property is not suitable for wheelchair access, and we recommend that anyone with mobility problems of any kind, checks with us prior to booking. We meet guests on arrival, and come in two mornings per week to maintain the extensive garden. We are always happy to provide local information, and answer any queries. We are available by phone and live nearby, should you need us on site. The Farway Valley is in a designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty". Step out of the garden gate directly onto the East Devon Way (a 40 mile trail for walkers) or head across the fields to Devenish Pitt Riding Stables - a few minutes walk away. Honiton Golf Course is just 3 miles, as is The Hare and Hounds pub, with good, reasonably priced food. The Jurassic Coast and nearest beach is just 7 miles away at the delightful village of Branscombe, where you can pick up the South West Coast Path. Walk to the next fishing village of Beer, and here, you will find art galleries and Beer Quarry caves. We also recommend a visit to Seaton Tramway and the pretty, little town of Colyton; the Regency, seaside town of Sidmouth with it's Donkey Sanctuary and the Norman Lockyer Observatory; and Lyme Regis with the famous Cobb (seen in the film "The French Lieutenant's Woman"). It is essential to have a car. The nearest public transport is in Honiton - 4 miles away. However, there is a village bus that offers a return trip to Honiton on a Tuesday morning only. There is Wi-fi at the cottage, but the mobile phone signal is very poor. If you would like a technology free holiday, we are very happy to turn off the Wi-fi. There is a land line for emergencies and standard UK calls only. Please note that during the growing season, the water weed on the pond increases considerably and provides valuable cover for the wildlife (see our "Pond in August" photo). If clear water matters to you, please ask us about it, at the time of booking.
