Stream and park like walking trail in back on old rail bed, 1.5 mi to Hunter mtn ski/zip line. Park & lake for swimg, disc golf, & golf. firepit, bbq. 1/4 mile walk to: mini golf, driving range, 2 streams for fishing, health spa, .7 mile from Becker hollow trail head to hunter fire tower, hunter festivals. Central between hunter (2 miles - movies, brewery) & TANNERSVILLE (2 miles - orpeham performing arts, movies) and phoenicia (12 miles down the road for water tubing down the rapids) - It is a warm rustic feeling, everyone seems to relax easily in it. Basic essentials for home cooking. The yard is peaceful, gardens abound, large fire pit, outdoor table w/bbq and a newly added 10 x 20 screen room for you to dine, entertain, do yoga, dance, etc. There is basic cable on the tv in the living room. The bedroom with 2 single beds has a smart tv (where you can watch movies from youtube and internet sites) - there is no cable on this tv. No DVD player. Stream and park like walking trail in back on old rail bed, 1.5 mi to Hunter mtn. Yes, mapquest and other gps services list my wrong down the road, I am 1:5 miles from hunter mountsin. At hunter mountain is a spa, snow tubing, zip line (all seasons, be sure to book well in advance especially if you want to do the high adventure one — watch YouTube videos to get a sense of it), a restaurant and bar (at the hotel) in the summer they often have festivals and you can take the chair lift to the top of the mountsin (and also back down), in the lodge during winter months is a few restaurants and music/ dance after skiing at4. Across the street from hunter mtn (on ski bowl road) is Dolan’s lake - here is a life guard and beach area, disc golf, and a park with a walking path around the lake. If you have a skate board, Hoover board or roller blades this would be a good place. I have in the closet with twin beds supplies for the beach-a cooler, umbrella, blanket. There is also there bocci ball and horse shoes to use in the yard, volley ball, discs for disc golf, basketball, tennis racket and paddle ball racquets. .7 a mile down the road on 214 heading towards Phoenicia is Becker trail this will take you to the fire tower at the top of hunter mountain. In the opposite direction .25 of a mile is the miniature golf course & driving range (corner of 214 & 23a). There is a stream on the property (dec has made it a little difficult to get down after putting in boulders to protect from flooding after Irene — I am working on figuring out how to make it easier to get down. If you have any suggestions or are a group of strong men that would like to help me in this matter, I am open to bartering), it is easier to get down to the stream if you walk to the right (heading to the bridge). There is another stream towards the right heading towards 23a (the schoharie) Enjoy bbq, but clean the grill for the next group. if you should run out you may take the tank from my upstairs grill. The yard is free reigns to renters. Trail in back yard to right of the shed - when you get to the top, make a right -- the trail itself is a neighbors property who lets me use it, please be respectful. The cabin back there is the neighbors so it is off limit. Do not go left on this trial as that heads you directly into my neighbors yard. I do not provide firewood for inside this wood must be seasoned to not damage the liner, there is a 24 hour Cumberland farm 4 minutes away where you pick a bundle of wood (make a right out of driveway and left on route 214), If there is a bundle of wood there already help yourself as previous renters have left it. I generally do not see my guests too often unless they seem like they are interested in chatting or looking for some local advice and request or invite me to visit. This is a downstairs apartment, 80% of the time I make arrangements not to be home when I have guests during spring, summer, and fall respecting guests privacy and outdoors. if me not be home is important to you please ask whether I will be home. For this reason, I listed this property as a home as guests essentially have use of it as a private home. I stay out of guests way, respecting their privacy. I do airbnb as a guest and other similar services, so I know what it is like to be in a new space needing to get acclimated. So I am open to helping guests find things that would make their trip special. I am a meditator and mystic, sharing this path, introducing people to meditation is an honor for me. If you have any interest in this and would like to arrange some meditation time (no charge), I am happy to accommodate as able. My primary path is A Course In Miracles, I honor all paths and everyone seeking. Mysticism is a great adventure for me. I have a guest book pdf that I did in 2013, it gives lots of places - directions to trails and swimming holes. If you are interested in this let me know after you book, text me your email and I will send it to you. You can't see any neighbors, completely nestled in the woods. Yet conveniently set back off a main road. Centrally located between Hunter Mountain ski area (1-1/2 mile away), Hunter, Tannersville and even Phoenicia were there is river tubing in the summer. Restaurants, theaters, golf hiking trails, miniature golf, snow tubing, snowmobiling, lakes, etc. are all within 5-10 minutes away. Truly in the heart of natures play ground. There is the adirondeck trailways - that stops in Hunter and Tannersville which you can pick up from the port authority in NYC. They also have a run that goes through Phoenicia and Windham I believe -- this one you could ask them to drop you off right in front of my house on 214 -- you need to confirm this when you call up Adirondeck trailways though. You can also get private buses that do day trips to Hunter from ski shops. Guests often ask about bears. Yes, there are bears, I have never heard of anyone getting hurt or attacked by a bear in my 26 years living here. But, I understand people have fears - I have left bells to wear on a hike to keep bears away (they hear you and avoid you — if you are with a few people you will be noisy enough. There is also a small can of fog horn which will make an extremely loud noise to chase a bear or any animal away, I have left you a can of this as well. Please do not use this other than a small test unless you need it so it is there for the next guest and for when you need it. A greater concern than bears should be ticks. Yes, we have ticks - from mid-spring and through the summer is usually the worst time for ticks, but they are active throughout the warm months. Honestly, all my incidents of tick bites have occurred while working in my yard or during non-hiking outdoor activities. Light colored clothing can make them easier to spot. Tight fitting gaiters can help keep them from getting up your pant legs. If you're not opposed to it a bug repellent containing DEET can give you some additional protection. The most important thing is to do a thorough inspection when you get home. The nasty little pests have a habit of heading for areas where they are hard to find. Behind the knee, the groin, armpits, under the breast and in the hairline behind the neck and ears are favorite hiding spots. If they are removed quickly before they become fully engorged the risk of transmission is nearly non-existent. If bit watch for the "bull's eye" rash, although this doesn't always occur. In any event if you know you've been bite and develop any flu-like symptoms get to the doctor right away. Coyotes - these are out there in the night time. You will hear them barking, they travel in packs. I have never seen any of them on my property near my house, they can occasionally sounds very spooky. The only thing to worry about coyotes is don’t be wondering off into the woods at night especially alone. These are a threat to small pets and livestock who are left it unattended, I have never heard of any problems with humans being attacked by coyotes hear. You can feel safe in the woods during the day with a foghorn.
