Pinecone Canyon Hideaway next to National Forest
Pinecone Canyon Hideaway is on the east side of the Sandia Mountains, just thirty minutes from the Albuquerque airport and 45 minutes from Santa Fe via the historic Turquoise Trail. We welcome outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers to our mountain retreat, as well as work-from-home professionals who need a safe and sequestered space to create, work and stay in long-distance touch. With easy access to miles of Cibola National Forest trails, this home is perfect those who like to hike, birdwatch, or just spend time in the mountains. Nearby Madrid, Cerrillos or Santa Fe are easy day trips along the Turquoise Trail, though there is plenty to explore right in the Sandia Park, Cedar Crest and Tijeras neighborhoods, or pop into Albuquerque for an urban Southwestern experience. There's big yard in and amongst tall ponderosa pines and cedars to wander and enjoy. Feel free to use the outdoor grill for an evening at home, as well as outdoor dining tables and chairs. Guests will have a number to call for assistance from my sister-in-law who lives nearby. She and her right-hand gal are fix-it, problem-solving champions. Guest are in very good hands. This is a quirky, vintage mountain neighborhood filled with the most lovely, creative folks imaginable. Independent, self-contained and ready to step in or step up to help in any circumstances. Everyone's busy doing their own thing though, so you probably won't see them unless you want to. Much in the area is currently closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Cabra Coffee on HWY 14 has a drive-up window, Roots Cafe in Tijeras is open with requisite mask/distancing protocols in place and Triangle Grocery is open every day. Many Cedar Crest and Sandia Park restaurants have takeout options, too. Please note: this house is at 7200 ft., something to be aware of if you're arriving from lower altitudes. With thinner oxygen supply comes clarity and great lung exercise, but for your first day slow and steady (plus hydration) is advised. Also, conservative water use is the name of the game for mountain living. Our well and septic system will appreciate your respect, i.e. no long showers or letting water run for long periods of time. We also ask that you not flush paper products of any kind, including toilet paper. Also please note: both bedrooms are upstairs and the stairs are steep.
