The Captain's Cottage - Islington

The “Captain's cottage” is a beautiful two bedroom 114-year-old miners cottage located within the friendly Islington Throsby village. Within walking distance are a wide range of antique & boutique shops, cafes, bakeries, barber shops, supermarkets and pubs. Down the end of the street is a park with shaded children’s play equipment and a cycle path that weaves its way along Throsby creek past the fish market all the way into the foreshore and beaches. The cottage has 2 large bedrooms with ceiling fans and a comfortable living room with reverse cycle air conditioning and two couches. The kitchen is small but well equipped with gas stovetop and oven, a microwave, fridge and washing machine. There is a tidy indoor bathroom with shower but if you prefer to bathe al fresco there is a vintage claw foot bath on the back verandah connected to the mains water and perfect for enjoying the sunset or watching the moon rise surrounded by the treetops. The house has been simply and thoughtfully decorated with new and vintage wares. There are two queen beds both are very comfortable which have quality linen, duvets and pillows. If you find yourself wanting something to do there are books and games and we are close by if you need suggestions on what to do in and around Newcastle. You are welcome to use all parts of the house and garden. There is no off-street parking so it’s best to leave your car on George Street which is just around the corner. If you prefer to explore on your own we will respect your privacy. But if you want any help with any recommendations or advice, let us know. We’re happy to share our favourite spots with you. We love Islington! It’s got everything you could possibly need great café’s, sustainable boutiques, retro and antique stores, hip barbershops and hairdressers. If you need supplies an IGA and Aldi are within walking distance or a Woolworths a short drive away. A weekly farmers market is held every Sunday within bike riding distance and various local design markets are on different weekends of the month. The cottage sits on the edge of Islington Park, which is located on Throsby Creek. The park has two sets of public gym equipment plus children's play equipment and public BBQs. There is a beautiful cycle way just across the park that links Islington to Carrington, the redeveloped Newcastle foreshore, and the main city. It's a beautiful walk, ride or even a kayak! The beach is only a short drive/ride/bus away (We can advise the best location for swimming/surfing for whatever the weather conditions happen to be). There is a bus stop a few minutes walk away which goes into town or out towards the university. Hamilton station is just around the corner with regular trains going to Central Coast/Sydney or towards Scone/Dungog. We love our neighbours and want to maintain our great relationship with them.
