We are happy to help you with any advice on the local area or leave you in peace! You will certainly meet our friendly German Shorthaired Pointer who was born in October 2020. Sparsholt is an active village. It has a characture full community run shop and post office, cricket pitch with regular summer games, a pub serving excellent food (a short walk along country lanes and footpaths) and a gorgeous country house hotel - Lainston House - perfect for afternoon tea or an early evening cocktail! It is approximately 4 miles to the centre of Winchester. The small city, which is the gateway to The South Downs National Park, has a multitude of historic buildings including the cathedral, National Trust Mill, Winchester College, City Museum and is generally a lovely city to take a meander through, maybe along the Itchen River or through the cathedral area. It also has a boutique cinema, theatre, farmers, craft and Christmas markets, lovely restaurants including the newly opened Ivy, Rick Stein, River Cottage, Brassiere Blanc and many independents. We love to head 6 miles the other way to Stockbridge which straddles The River Test - the finest trout fishing river in the country. The river is so clear and you can see trout in the river as it passes through the town. The town has lovely feel with great pubs, resturants, cafes and boutiques. Mottisfont, a fantastic National trust property, is just the other side. If you would like to go a little farther afield for a day trip you could head to the beach on the South coast, Stonehenge, The New Forest, Bath, London (1 hour on the train) or even the Isle of Wight. A car is ideal but there is a bus service from Winchester bus station hourly that stops about 100m from our gate. The journey time on the train from London to Winchester is approx 1 hr. We have an assortment of baby equipement available - travel cot, high chairs etc and can put extra beds in for children. Just ask. The property has smoke alarms, a fire extinguisher and fire blanket, first aid kit and carbon monoxide alarms. Friendly, well behaved dogs are welcome though please clean up after them. We ask that you do not allow them on the furniture or in the bedrooms. We have put a discount of 5% on a weekly stay and 10% on a monthly stay.
