El Habitante Casa Cultural & Hostal

El Habitante is a cultural center and hostel run as a social enterprise by the NGO "Fundación Tiempo de Juego". If you like to travel off the beaten path and really immerse yourself in Caribbean culture, this is the place for you. Dance classes are held regularly at the hostel, radio programs are broadcast in the recording studio or people from the community meet on the terrace for refreshing drinks and a friendly chat. The old colonial-style house has 3 rooms (6-bed dormitory, private single bed room and private double bed room), a self-catering kitchen, a dining room, a work area, two showers, bathrooms and common spaces to relax or get creative. El Habitante is located in the city center of Ciénaga right on the Caribbean Sea in Colombia, only 5 minutes walk from the 2 km long beach and 20 minutes by bus to the huge mountains and wilderness of "La Sierra Nevada". The airport "Santa Marta International" is only 20 minutes away by cab. The airport "Simón Bolívar International Santa Marta" is only 20 km from Ciénaga (20 minutes by cab, $12). From Santa Marta: Public transportation to Ciénaga (30km by pick-up, $1.50) or cab (30km, $13). From Barranquilla: Public transportation from the airport "Aeropuerto Internacional Ernesto Cortissoz Barranquilla" (70km by bus, $5). El Habitante is dedicated to responsible tourism and all those who want to have a positive impact on society during their travels. In addition to the activities we offer, we support the local community and economy by selling local products such as coffee, honey, cacao and handicrafts. You can book dance, handcraft or drum classes or visit our football classes in the neighborhood.
