Short description about the Kayaking Tour: We take the equipment required for your safety (Lifejackets, etc), kayaks and going through mangrove swamps. You will see some bird-filled mangroves, rolling hills of lush vegetation. Through the mangroves and Land at the open San Lorenzo Bay, from where you can photograph the rugged forest landscape. The national park’s name comes from its original inhabitants, the Taino Indians. In their language “Haitises” translates to highlands or Hills, a reference to the coastline’s steep geological formations with Limestones. Kayaking Tour it is 2 hours. In addition to great service, you can enjoy typical local food (fresh seafood) or outdoor activities and excursions with a Local Profesional Tour Guide. Each of our 16 rooms is named after birds that can be found in the National park Los Haitises (there are around 110 species in the park). Caño Hondo is located about 20 minutes outside of town (Sabana de la Mar) Because of the lodge's remote location, the best way to arrive is via private vehicle or taxi. Most Dominican drivers knows the location of Caño Hondo or just write us and We will help you. If driving yourself: From Bavaro/Punta Cana take highway 104 via Miches. Take this highway all the way to the end at Sabana de la Mar. Make a right and then your first left. This road becomes dirt but most vehicles will have no problem since there is no incline, but an SUV is preferred. At the first fork in the road stay left. At the second fork in the road, stay right. At the third fork in the road, go straight. From Samana peninsula (Las Terrenas, Las Galeras, Samana, etc) is the best to take a public ferry departing from Samana port to Sabana de la Mar community. We provide a transfer from the port to the hotel for en extra cost of 5 USD per person. if you have booked a Tour with us, the transfer is included. From Santo Domingo (and all other parts of the country) since you will have to pass through Santo Domingo from the country's other regions. Take Highway #3 (Las Americas) East to San Pedro de Macoris. Look for signs for Highway #4 towards Hato Mayor. Travel North on Highway #4 and pass through the town of Hato Mayor taking Highway #103 North to Sabana de la Mar. As you enter town keep straight at the roundabout for Hwy #104 and make your first left after the roundabout. One beverage is also included per person with each meal. Alcoholic drinks are available for a fee as are additional beverages. The hotel's menu tells quirky tales of indigenous words and fabled stories of the area. It also highlights the regions typical dishes like crab, conch and minuta, a small fresh water fish that is enjoyed, locally, seasoned and fried. Fresh natural fruit juices are rotated daily: lime, melon, mango, tamarind, pineapple, etc.
