We appreciate your feedback while we build a 5 star hosting location! Bishop Lakehouse has undergone an extensive and detailed renovation that completed in October 2021. We took this rustic hunting and fishing lodge down to the studs and replaced all systems including electric and plumbing. The lodge now has all new Anderson windows and 40 feet of sliding glass doors providing expansive views of the lake and woods The redesign of the lodge kept the original footprint while maximizing and modernizing the space and enhancing charming features, like vaulting the great room ceiling to expose original wood beams and restoring the over 35 foot long fully screened patio. A new deck was built off the patio and wraps around all 4 sides of the lodge with views of the lake, woods and pastures. The lodge is sited on a 10 acre private man made lake that is full of bass and bream. It is surrounded by hardwood forests at the edge of the yard and a trail circles almost the entire lake including taking you across the dam. All finishes and decor were thoughtfully selected and include a mix of original art, new designer fixtures and furnishings and vintage pieces. The bedrooms all have vaulted ceilings clad in cedar tongue and groove. The floors are the original red oak that have been lovingly restored. The kitchen has all new hardwood cabinets with locally sourced black walnut accents and floating shelves. The appliances are a cooks dream and admittedly a bit over the top for a vacation home! Rounding out the kitchen is charming coffee bar/ butlers pantry crafted from a refurbished vintage dresser that was modified to have a bar sink and soapstone counter to match the rest of the kitchen. The custom glass uppers continue the black walnut accents and floating shelves. The pantry is supplied with a large selection of French glassware in 3 sizes, a fully stocked coffee setup, as well as other tools and accessories for serving a delightful meal or drinks party, such as a blender, ice bucket, pitcher, platters, bowls, etc. Bathrooms feature unique handmade tiles, wall mounted Kohler sink fixtures, heated floors, custom vanities with soapstone counters and frameless glass showers with Kohler thermostatic systems and individual flow controls for 3 spray options, including overhead rain heads. Wood accents on the exterior are salvaged rough cut lumber from a 1920s cottage on the farm. Sitting on the screened patio you can look up to see inset tin ceilings made from reclaimed roofing we saved from the cottage and an old chicken house that we also salvaged. Both the lodge and the lake were constructed in the 1950s by former long time Athens GA mayor and civic leader, Julius Bishop. Our family acquired the property and surrounding 1300 acres from Mr. Bishop in the 1980s and ran our family cattle ranch here for several decades. The current property is 142 acres and is a mix of hardwood forests, hay fields and, of course, the lake and lodge.
