Stylish apartment in Victorian country house

A perfect couple's retreat: spacious apartment decorated in a contemporary classic style, with the privacy of extensive grounds to the house. Outside, you can walk or cycle from the door in the Cumbrian countryside in either direction. The nearby coast is 4 miles away and its a perfect base to explore the Lakes- Ennerdale Water is less than 7 miles: Buttermere, Wasdale, Borrowdale and Loweswater are also close. No. 1 Ehen Hall is a one bedroom self contained apartment in a substantial Victorian country mansion. Retaining many original features, the large rooms and high ceilings are complemented by modern comforts which make this a great holiday home for a quiet, relaxing get away. The grounds comprise of large lawns surrounded by mature woodland, about seven acres of private space for you to enjoy. In summer, there is outdoor seating to enjoy the views. Located on the quieter side of the Lakes, just outside the western border of the Lake District National Park, our guests generally enjoy getting away from the crowds. Yet, in less than 10 minutes drive, you can be strolling around the shores of one of the area's finest and most serene lakes: Ennerdale. A little longer drive will get you to the lovely Wasdale valley which claims to have England's highest mountain (Scafell Pike), deepest lake (Wastwater), smallest church (St. Olafs) and Biggest Liar which is a local annual competition full of hilarity. An alternative to hills and lakes, but still within 10 minutes drive, is our beautiful coast. Long quiet beaches dotted with coastal towns, and villages bursting with maritime history are yours to explore. The house is accessed by a private entrance and driveway. After a short flight of steps, the external door opens into the hall. There is a spacious living area with large, comfortable sofas and a TV. The fully equipped kitchen/diner is across the hall, overlooking the garden. The hall also boasts a dedicated desk if you need to work during your stay: there is wifi throughout the house. The shower room and toilet are also on the ground floor. Upstairs, the spacious landing leads into a large bedroom, with a super king bed and a decorative original fireplace. Parking is off road, right outside the house and the apartment is accessed by a short external flight of stairs. Cleator is a small village with a local shop selling a range of essentials and foods , but its very famous locally for its homemade pies. There is a nearby hotel within walking distance that is open to non-residents and has a restaurant and a bar. A good walk starting from Ehen Hall: is a walk around Longlands Lake, on leaving through the entrance turn left and after a very short distance take the next left, by the memorial silhouette, follow the road between Miami Lights on your right and the house with the flower baskets on your left, carry on past some houses to a car park where you cross the pedestrian bridge to begin a circuit of Longlands. It has a resident population of ducks and swans and is a popular short walk of less than a mile. There are usually no difficulties with parking in the area, although parking in the towns or at National Trust carparks require payment. We welcome pets, but sorry, its a no smoking building!
