“The Cottage” - a farm-stay close to the CBD
"The Cottage" is set on 9 picturesque acres, 10 minutes from Ballarat CBD and close to both Sovereign Hill and the Ballarat Wildlife Park. It is also walking distance to Federation University and minutes from Buninyong, with its world famous cycling circuit, cafes and winery. In a relaxed, country setting guests are able to have a BBQ on the private back deck, play records in front of the wood fire, wander through the bush block and orchard, and feed the native birds and friendly farm animals. The Cottage is located on the same property as our home. It has one main bedroom with a queen sized bed and a small second bedroom with a single bed. The kitchen/living area is open-plan and facilities (website hidden) include double hot plates, microwave, kettle, toaster and electric frypan. Please note there is no oven. There is a TV with DVD player; a CD and record player with records and CDs; and a piano with music if you feel inclined to tinkle the ivories! We have Telstra mobile and 4G coverage and guests have access to WiFi. On our hobby farm we have chooks, sheep, a friendly old Boxer dog and lovely native birds. Please feel free to feed your fruit and vegetable scraps to the chickens (through their little wooden feeding door) and collect eggs (when available) from the red nesting box. On the back deck you will find bird seed for the feeder in the pear tree and oats for the friendly sheep. Please note that the Cottage is not really suitable for small children. We have unfenced farm dams within close proximity to the back deck of the Cottage. There are also a number of decorative items at toddler level. We appreciate your understanding. There is also a minimum two night booking policy for public holiday long weekends and school holiday periods. Guests have access to the whole property and are requested to please leave farm gates as they find them. They can also go through the bottom gate and walk along the creek into the Canadian State Forest. I like to meet everyone who stays on our property, where possible, and am always available to answer guests’ queries, via phone, Airbnb messaging or in person. However, we are always very conscious of our guests’ privacy. Our property is surrounded by farm land and state forest, yet it is close to both Ballarat and Buninyong. Ballarat has a rich history and vibrant cafe culture and nightlife. Buninyong has a quaint “village” feel with its cafes and historic buildings. The Cottage is very much a part of the history of the area, dating back to the 1860s. Interesting artefacts from the past can be found on the veranda and inside the cottage. Having your own car is the most convenient way to access the cottage and surrounding areas. However, should you be relying on public transport, I am more than happy to facilitate drop-offs and pickups from Ballarat train station and CBD (where possible). There are also a number of bus stops within walking distance (Federation University, Greenhill Rd, Yankee Flat Rd). The wood fire is always set for guests upon arrival and wood is provided. Outside of the fire season (November to April) guests are welcome to use the fire pit in the bush block. Please ask if you are unsure if the conditions are suitable.
