Mill Cottage sits in the village of Gosforth in the quieter Western Lake District. Having had a complete renovation it retains its quirky charm with boutique styling. Perfectly placed to enjoy village life but close to popular sites including Muncaster Castle, Scafell, Englands highest mountain, and the stunning Wastwater, the deepest lake. Miles of sand dunes on peaceful dog-friendly beaches are a mere 5 minutes away. Mill is a modern cosy retreat & a great base to enjoy the magic of the Lakes Snuggle up in our cosy reading nook with a book, the radio playing and enjoy planning your next walk from one of the Wainwright books, hiking guides or maps provided. TV lovers can relax on our cosy Made sofa in front of a roaring fire and enjoy one of the many DVDs or download a movie or their favourite boxset from the 42" SMART TV. A fully equipped sunny kitchen with feature breakfast bar, under counter fridge and modern AEG ceramic hob with oven makes cooking easy once you've sampled all the delights on the doorstep. We also provide a welcome pack so you can enjoy that all important cuppa when you arrive! After a day on the fells, guests can lay back and unwind with a long soak in the bath or enjoy the walk in power shower with oodles of hot water from the new heating system. A good nights sleep is guaranteed in our comfy beds whether in the main bedroom with its decadent mahogany and gold accent styling or the quirky twin attic bedroom with original beams, sandstone feature wall and views towards the fells from the Velux window. The South facing courtyard style garden is a real sun trap. The utility room at the bottom is a great space to lock away bikes & also houses the freezer, washing machine, cleaning & laundry equipment. With running water & sink its also handy for guests with dogs. The garden, fenced to one side for more privacy, has pockets of planting & pots of flowers & herbs to attract wildlife and soften the space. Table, chairs & a bbq (in the summer months) are provided so why not enjoy a day relaxing in the garden appreciating its all day sunshine. Guests have sole use of Mill cottage and the courtyard style garden. The garden can also be accessed via the rear of the property through a small wooden side gate at the end of our terrace. The garden is fenced on one side with a lockable outbuilding creating seclusion while keeping a spacious feel. All 3 cottages on our quaint terrace have shared access to the pathway running along the top of the gardens so this should not be obstructed Mill Cottage was our renovation project when we moved to the Lakes and is our second holiday let. We know the area well after holidaying here for many years in Roses Cottage - initially our holiday home before we began welcoming guests. We look after the cottage ourselves so can make your stay as best as it can be. We operate a simple key code check in but are on hand for advice and emergencies. We also have a small dine in menu of home cooked meals inspired by my Jamaican heritage at an additional charge which we can deliver. We started this after noticing there was a limited choice of high quality more culturally diverse takeaways and being spoilt for choice in London! If interested please enquire before your stay. You can also check out our website for all cottage enquiries cosycottageinthelakes Nestled amongst the amazing backdrop of the fells and the Irish Sea, Gosforth is a small traditional Lakeland village filled with charming cottages with a well stocked village shop, yummy bakery, Italian restaurant, cafe, playing fields and swing park for the kids and, all important, village pub. Being on the edge of the Western Lakes it has a quieter vibe with less crowds but offers all the Lakeland charm with stunning landscape, lakes, forest and mountains. Most of our guests bring their own cars as it's the easiest way to explore the surrounding area. However Mill Cottage's village location with such good amenities on the doorstep means you can leave the car behind if you're happy to stay local. There are low level walks from the doorstep including the walk along the River Bleng into the stunning Blengdale forest. The area is a cyclist's delight whether you want a meander along the cycle path to Seascale beach with the family or a more challenging ride towards the gorgeous valleys of Eskdale. Bike hire is also available from the village. Seascale (2 miles away) has a train station with direct trains to Carlisle and a local taxi service making it easy travel to the cottage for those not bringing a car I personally clean the cottage so you can be sure that a clean and cosy cottage awaits! A welcome pack including coal, logs and firelighters is provided as well as details on how to get the fire going. We also provide a kitchen welcome pack so you can enjoy that all important cuppa when you arrive. The attic bedroom does have a steep staircase and low beams being a traditional Lakeland cottage all adding to its charm. There is a shared access pathway at top of our garden - used occasionally by our end neighbour when putting out their bins! We do have a strict cancellation policy, being our main business, but will refund covid related cancellations where possible.
