Located near the village of Wakes Colne, Chappel in the breathtaking Colne Valley, The Piggery offers dreamy escapism deep within the rural seclusion of north Essex, yet just an hour from London. Our stunning bolthole for four with an inviting hot tub has been sensitively converted from a former piggery and stable at Crepping Hall Farm. Gone are the horses and pigs – instead you’ll find glorious ground floor accommodation. Retaining its original character, luxurious style and modern facilities have been thoughtfully inserted. The property benefits from WiFi, and heating is provided by both air conditioning and oil fired central heating to radiators. Guests are also welcome to explore the 500 acres of private grounds with woodlands and fish in the two acre lake at the beautiful Wakes Hall Lodges site nearby. The Piggery benefits from two generous sitting rooms with comfy sofas and a fully equipped kitchen/dining area, offering plenty of space for everyone to relax and dine together. At either end of The Piggery are two double bedrooms and two bathrooms – one with shower and one with bath. Outside, there is a courtyard garden area to the front with rattan furniture and a barbecue, ideal for alfresco dining. Or champion the private hot tub, perfect for unwinding or a spot of stargazing at the end of the day. Approximately six miles from Colchester and eight miles from Halstead on the A (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , The Piggery is approached by an estate road from the livery yard and signposted to a courtyard There is much to do and see in the area. Locally, it is just over a mile from the historical viaduct at Chappel where there is a shop and post office and a picturesque pub beside the River Colne that serves locally brewed beer. A 25 minute drive takes you to Britain’s oldest recorded town, Colchester which offers a wide range of activities for all ages, from Colchester Zoo to the Roman Castle. The world-renowned Constable country is within a 30 minute drive, where you can take a visit to Dedham Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, home of Flatford Mills, made famous by John Constable’s painting, The Haywain. The beautiful village of Coggeshall just 18 minutes’ away, is steeped in history and the back drop to many television series including Lovejoy. Expect lots of museums, stately homes and gardens. Highlights include the Gainsborough House museum and art gallery in Sudbury, Marks Hall Gardens & Arboretum, The Beth Chatto Gardens, Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall. All are within half an hour’s drive. Within a 15 minute drive is the Earls Colne Golf & Country Club together with numerous other golf courses located within a short driving distance.
