Located on the fringe of a 16th century village with a fantastic pub for dining within a couple of minutes walking distance, and lovely walks in the area including to a Holy Well and the River Ouse. There are however local walks over bridleways and footpaths bordering the property including a small wood and river frontage, and walk to the Stevington Windmill (which the property looks onto). Owners live in the farmhouse on site immediately next door. We are available for support, advice and caretaking. The location is the North Beds Wolds, and the Great Ouse Valley, Bunyan Country. The countryside undulating and very pleasant 'middle England'. Centre Parcs choose to base themselves a few miles away for a good reason, stay with us for a personalised version of Centre Parcs! There is a very wide range of outdoor activities withing 20 mins such as horse riding, walking, swimming, cycling (north beds has the most miles of bridleways per square mile of any county in the UK), swimming, wakeboarding, sailing, rowing, Woburn. We have a fast service to London by train, and are close the M1 and A1 for easy travel to all points of the compass. Bedford has 3 swimming pools, a beautiful river frontage and history, 2 cinemas and lots of dining, market town shopping with free parking. Olney is a quaint local market town with a fantastic market and unique shopping. The city of Milton Keynes is 20 minutes by car and has fantastic facilities including shopping, Snozone, cinemas and theatre. Just up the A1 is the Harry Potter studio. There is a bus just outside the gate. 10 mins to the train station by car 20 mins to Milton Keynes Under an hour to Oxford and Cambridge This section is where we note anything that our fantastic guests have mentioned that it would be 'good to share'. We are so pleased that in our over 3 years of hosting, via ABNB and otherwise, of the over 200 visits to the annex at Millcroft Barn and the holiday cottage at Maythorn Farm, almost 100% of our guests have had a 5* plus across the board experience. We try to make it very clear what we are, and what we are not. Apologies if this is overly long, its there to ensure that we don't ever disappoint. The Barn is set in a smallholding with horses, dogs, chickens and geese and is an annex to the main farmhouse. The barn is 7.5 by 5 meters, the size of a modern 3 bed house, i.e. huge for an annex. In general it is priced to compare with a hotel, but has loads more to offer than a hotel suite, a room in a house, or many glamping and other holiday accommodation experiences. But its important to take note of what is does not offer too, to avoid disappointment. The barn has a fantastic view across the side garden of the farmhouse and the paddocks to the Stevington Windmill. Lots of guests have commented on the fantastic view. We don't however include outside space as standard as the annex is next to the house and its garden, and as fencing off a space would spoil the view. When we have guests we don't use the side garden, so Millcroft Barn stays private. We have a chicken coop in the paddock, and you might see us walking our dogs and seeing to the chickens or horses in the paddock, but its a fair way away and we can't see into the barn from so far away. The Barn is a large detached building next to the main farmhouse, which means it is very quiet. There is a single storey porch between the 2 buildings, which is just for guests. You have your own entrance. The Barn is much more private than a hotel suite, or a lot of holiday accommodation or glamping pods in a complex on shared grounds. However it is an annex, and the price reflects that it is not a separate holiday cottage in its own grounds. So if you are looking for a secluded isolated cottage in its own grounds where you won't see anyone else this is probably not the place for you. Lots of our guests are dog lovers. Many are not. We have dogs! You might very well not even see them though. They are separated from the entrance so you won't have to have any contact with them, but they do live next door and they do go out in the rear garden. So to be on the safe side if you are really really not a fan of dogs, maybe this is not the place for you. And because we have dogs ourselves and don't offer outside space we are not unfortunately able to have dogs to stay. (Our holiday cottage Maythorn Farm however is dog friendly.) There are blinds over the mezzanine and kitchen door, and curtains over the patio doors. But it is not pitch black as there is a huge picture window and 2 velux windows with no blinds. If you are not sure what we mean by this, please just ask before you book. Several people have asked for more info, and have gone on to have an amazing stay. But if you need to have a totally dark room to sleep, in the summer especially, this is probably not the place for you. The entrance and parking is electric gates. Parking is in the large courtyard to the smallholding, next to the main house, so it is very secure. There is a parking space for the barn, and if you have 2 cars, one parks behind the other. The bathroom and toilet are downstairs. Not on the mezzanine sleeping area. Millcroft Barn is a self catering annex, and we do not offer a breakfast service. It has a lot more facilities than a hotel, but not a full kitchen. So if you really want all the facilities for cooking, or need a washing machine, unfortunately this is not the place for you. In the kitchenette there is a sink, fridge (no freezer), combination microwave/oven/grill, 2 portable induction hobs, a portable lean mean grilling machine, tea/coffee filter pot, kettle. We supply individually wrapped sachets of milk, tea, coffee and sugar to get you going. We also supply emergency toothbrush and toothpaste if you forget yours, complementary hand cream, shampoo and conditioner, and unlimited loo rolls! There are 2 bath sheets, 2 hand towels and 2 facecloths, plus throws for the sofa and a throw over the bed, and 4 pillows, 2 soft, 2 firmer. Please let us know if you need any spares which we are happy to provide. We only offer Millcroft Barn to the one or two people booked to stay for relatively short stays - unfortunately we are not able to offer it as a place to invite friends and family back to entertain. If you are looking for a full kitchen, or to have people over, or a long stay, this is not the place for you, and you are probably best booking a holiday cottage. Unfortunately we generally only take bookings for one or 2 people, with a couple sharing the super king bed. We don't allow people to sleep on the sofa as its not a sofa bed and would could not clean the sofa the way you would need to for later guests if it was used for sleeping. In some circumstances we are able to accommodate 2 people in separate beds, or so if you need a separate bed please just get in contact in advance before booking as this can be arranged . If you have any specific expectations/needs please do discuss with us first so you are not disappointed. We are not able to accept pets, or children, as Millcroft Barn is generally not suitable. We understand the needs of guests with mobility challenges, as we have personal experience of this. Our other property Maythorn Farm was actually built with access as a priority. The wetroom meets wheelchair turning circle requirements and the whole ground floor is level access. We can add a single bed downstairs, by special request. Millcroft Barn is not set out specifically for people with disabilities, due to having a mezzanine, but if you think it might be right for you, send us a message so we can discuss your needs and see if we can make it work such that you have an amazing stay. Any other questions please just ask before booking!
