About the Town Lauro is a hillside town 15 min inland from the A1 motorway (Nola) which in turn is a half hour drive from Naples with its international airport. The Amalfi coast and other major cities are also within less than an hour’s drive with all they have to offer in terms of art, archeological sites and pleasurable pastimes. Travelling east from Lauro through the Appenine mountains you can reach Avellino in 20 min and the wild Irpinia with its national parks. Matera and the region of Puglia are a further hour’s travelling. Undoubtedly Lauro is in a strategic position for who is wanting to visit places of interest in southern Italy. In the fine season the town attracts visitors thanks to its castle ( with a series of cultural events within the castle's premises ), the museum dedicated to Umberto Nobile (transpolar aerostat expedition), the ruins of a Roman villa and because of its natural setting which favors a mild and cooler climate, a refuge from the summer heat.
