A calm, deeply luxurious space to recharge & reconnect. The Shippon is a meticulously converted cow barn with heated, polished concrete floors, gently curving deep green walls, hand-built kitchen, warmly lit reading nooks, & natural materials. Woollen blankets, feather sofa, antique Scandinavian log burner, king-size bed with French linen & down, waterfall shower, & the softest towels. Our sleepy Devon hamlet is only lit by stars at night. You might just sleep better than you have in years. A Shippon is a traditional Devonian word for a cattle barn, and for the last few hundred years ours wasn't much more than that. We've lovingly converted every bit of it ourselves with underfloor heating and polished concrete floors, velvety soft limewashed walls, local weathered oak ceilings, a hand-built concrete kitchen, and a restored antique woodburner from Copenhagen. •There are warmly lit nooks, a sumptuous window seat, woollen blankets and a feather & linen sofa to disappear into a book with. •The king-size hand-made walnut and oak bed boasts nothing but feather pillows and French linen. •The kitchen is fully equipped, including induction hob, oven, toaster, fridge, locally made bespoke black porcelain crockery, single grind fresh coffee, organic dried chillies and garlic...... On request we can stock the wine rack, prepare a breakfast hamper, or fill the fridge with local handcrafted beer for your arrival. •The bathroom offers a waterfall shower, towel radiator, hand carved sycamore dough trough sink, organic toiletries, and the softest bath sheets we could find. •Up the reclaimed oak and plough iron staircase you'll find a snug mezzanine level with long-reaching views towards Dartmoor. •We've laid the Shippon patio with reclaimed medieval cobbles we unearthed on the main property here, and sandstone slabs from a church in Dartmouth. Surrounded by ferns and flowers and a lily pond, it's a sunspot in the summer and the perfect place to soak up the sunset with a glass of something. •You'll find some of our favourite books in the Shippon, including local guide books, and a selection of our favourite board games. •Beyond the Shippon patio is the rest of the generous garden which you are welcome to share with us during your stay. The Shippon is situated on a little country lane at the edge of the hamlet, across from the main house. 10 minutes drive from pretty Totnes, 30 minutes from Exeter, tucked away just 10 minutes off the A38, and perfectly situated to explore Dartmoor and the South West Coast. We hope we've thought of everything you'll need so you can unwind, switch off and reconnect with the things that matter to you. The Shippon is exclusively yours during your stay, and is accessed from its own parking area via a path, and a cobbled patio area that is also just for you to enjoy while you are here. You are also most welcome to share the rest of the rather lovely spacious garden with us during your stay. We’re here whenever possible to welcome you on arrival, and we'll let you know beforehand if we can't be. We honestly love having guests around, and we'll do everything we can to make your stay perfect- including leaving you entirely in peace. If you are feeling sociable, or want to know where to head for the nicest local shops, best coffee, or which beaches we recommend most, just ask. We live in the main house here and we're at hand if you need something, but we have 6 years + of experience of Superhosting, so you should feel you have perfect peace and privacy throughout your stay. Landscove is a pretty and highly sought-after village in the South Hams. An excellent gastro pub, village hall, primary school and a pretty church are about the only things that interrupt the organically-farmed fields and Devon lanes. And with no street lights in the area the nights are blissful, and the stars shine bright. A local bus passes Landscove twice a day from Totnes, where there are trains to London etc. So a car is really the only sensible way to get around the area, unless you are an avid walker or cyclist. Totnes is six miles away, and a 10 minute drive. The Shippon and it's cobbled patio are exclusively yours during your stay, but you will probably see us around - gardening, chopping logs... We shouldn't disturb you though, and we'll leave you in peace unless you'd like a chat or need something. There is a little cabin on the grounds which is also an Airbnb, but it also has its own secluded space and unless you are feeling sociable you should barely notice each other. We have a beehive in the garden. It's a long way off from the Shippon and the bees are much too busy making honey to pay you the least bit of attention, but do give them space and take the usual precautions of carrying an epi pen with you if you know you are allergic to bees.
